Resident Engineer - Underground Shaft / Water Tunnels

STV are seeking a Resident Engineer to join our CM/PM Group out of our Boston, MA Office. Are you ready to take a leadership position in a groundbreaking, long-term program that will transform the City of Boston's water infrastructure over the next decade?

As the Resident Engineer with responsibility for major aspects of the construction you will advance this complex, high-impact project involving multiple shaft construction and concurrent tunneling operations.

The ideal applicant:

Will have underground shaft and water tunnel construction experience involving rock blasting, excavation, rock bolting, materials handling, TBM operations, and shaft and tunnel cast in place concrete liner construction. Additional experience with connections to water systems andbackground with large water pipe, valves, and chamber construction is beneficial.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Management: Managing a team of Assistant Engineers, inspectors, EH&S personnel, quality team members, and office-engineer personnel.

  • Leadership: Leading and organizing cross-functional activities, and coordination of project activities throughout all phases of the work.

  • Communications: High level of communications with on-site personnel, other Construction Management team members, Contractors, the Engineer of Record (EOR), the Program Manager, and the Owner.

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and manage budget/spending performance including managing activities related to project scope and scope creep, schedule, cost, cash flow, risk mitigation, quality, and other performance measures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the resolution of cost overruns through value engineering.

  • Recommending potential solutions to the EOR, Program Manager and Owner on technically complex issues.

  • Effectively and professionally communicating challenges and issues that arise during construction.

  • Evaluating and managing scope of work changes and negotiating cost changes and schedule impacts on behalf of the Owner.

  • Monitoring and adjusting CM staff requirements to align with project needs across all phases of the work.

  • Supporting as required in public meetings in coordination with Owner.

  • Supporting community and stakeholder communications and participates as needed.

  • Overseeing the timely completion of documentation necessary for project close-out.

  • Implementing recommendations for construction management improvement, including program reporting and process.

  • Managing lessons learned and develop trainings to staff for program and project improvements.

  • Mentoring staff to enable them to grow and develop within the overall program.

Job Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years construction management experience.

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience as Resident Engineer.

  • Proven leadership experience as a Resident Engineer on a water conveyance construction.

  • Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively with Owner, Program Manager, Engineer of Record and Community Stakeholders.

  • Prior experience in Construction Management on projects within the Boston MA heavy civil infrastructure market.

  • Experience in shaft and tunnel construction for a public agency.

  • Ability to ensure that construction is performed in accordance with the design documents.

  • Capability to manage competing demands.

  • Ability to prioritize and address challenges.

  • Ability to work effectively with project partners to develop practical solutions that meets the Owner's needs and maintain schedule.

  • Comfortable leading meetings.

  • Exceptional technical and project management skills related to the construction process.

  • Ability to work from the site location 5 days a week.

Required Education and Certifications:

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

  • PE License in Massachusetts strongly preferred or the ability/commitment to obtain Massachusetts PE within 1 year.

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM).

Compensation Range:

$137,697.82 - $183,597.09
