Responsibilities

The Recruiter is responsible for identifying, attracting, and hiring qualified talent to support heavy civil construction operations. This role partners closely with Operations, Human Resources and Talent Acquisition, and hiring managers to understand current and forecasted workforce needs and develop proactive recruiting strategies.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on recruiter who understands the fast-paced nature of construction recruiting and is comfortable sourcing both skilled craft professionals and construction leadership talent. Success requires strong relationship-building skills, urgency, creativity in sourcing, and the ability to manage multiple hiring priorities across projects and geographic markets.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruiting & Talent Acquisition

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting from intake through offer for assigned positions.
  • Recruit for heavy civil construction roles including laborers, equipment operators, CDL drivers, pipe crews, concrete crews, foremen, superintendents, field engineers, project engineers, estimators, and other construction professionals.
  • Develop proactive sourcing strategies to build pipelines for current and future project needs.
  • Source candidates through Indeed, LinkedIn, employee referrals, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, community organizations, industry events, and direct outreach.
  • Screen candidates for relevant construction experience, technical skills, job requirements, compensation expectations, geographic availability, and overall fit.
  • Coordinate interviews, communicate candidate feedback, and maintain consistent follow-up throughout the hiring process.
  • Prepare and extend competitive employment offers in partnership with HR and Operations.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of qualified candidates for recurring and hard-to-fill positions.

Workforce Planning & Business Partnership

  • Partner with Operations leaders and hiring managers to understand project schedules, manpower requirements, upcoming work, anticipated vacancies, and critical hiring needs.
  • Participate in regular manpower and workforce planning discussions to identify needs before they become urgent.
  • Advise hiring managers on candidate availability, recruiting challenges, market conditions, compensation competitiveness, and hiring timelines.
  • Establish clear recruiting priorities based on project schedules and business needs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with field leadership to ensure recruiting efforts remain aligned with changing operational demands.

Candidate Experience & Employment Brand

  • Provide candidates with timely, professional communication throughout the recruiting process.
  • Clearly communicate job expectations, work environment, travel requirements, schedules, career opportunities, and company culture.
  • Represent the organization at career fairs, trade schools, community events, military recruiting events, and construction industry events.
  • Build relationships with schools, workforce development organizations, veterans' organizations, and other community partners that can generate qualified talent.

Recruiting Operations & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate candidate and requisition information within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
  • Monitor recruiting activity and provide updates on open positions, candidate pipelines, hiring progress, and recruiting challenges.
  • Use recruiting data to identify opportunities to improve sourcing strategies and hiring outcomes.
  • Support compliance with company hiring practices and applicable employment requirements.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000, based on experience.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of recruiting or talent acquisition experience, preferably supporting construction, skilled trades, infrastructure, manufacturing, transportation, or another field-based workforce.
  • Experience managing full-cycle recruiting and multiple open requisitions simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively source passive candidates rather than relying solely on applicants.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with both field and professional-level employees.
  • Ability to work effectively with hiring managers and operational leaders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize changing hiring needs.
  • Experience working with an ATS and candidate sourcing platforms.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, offices, career fairs, recruiting events, and community partners as needed.
