The Senior Business Analyst, Commercial is a senior analytical role within SSA Marine's evolving commercial capability and the dedicated owner of the Contracting, Customer Relationship Management & Analytics strategy; Commercial Insights, Analytics & Data Governance. The position exists to create enterprise visibility into commercial performance through governed reporting, analytics, benchmarking, and data stewardship.

Operating at the intersection of Commercial, Finance, Operations, and IT, the Sr. Business Analyst translates operational, contractual, customer, and market data into clear, decision-useful insight that supports pricing, contracting, customer governance, and budget planning across the container portfolio. The role moves the Division from manual, fragmented reporting toward a governed, self-service analytics environment featuring compelling visualization and, over time, predictive insight. Working closely with the Sr. Director and commercial peers, the role sets reporting standards, owns the Power BI inventory and self-service roadmap, sustains commercial data quality, and represents the Container Division in commercial data governance - enabling disciplined, data-driven commercial execution in support of the Division's EBITDA North Star.

Essential Responsibilities:

Commercial Performance Reporting & Executive Insights

  • Own recurring monthly commercial performance reporting spanning volume, revenue, EBITDA, pricing, customer, terminal, and variance themes.
  • Translate reporting outputs into executive-ready narratives - what changed, what is driving it, what it means, and recommended actions - moving from pull reporting to a governed monthly push-insight cadence.
  • Complete ad hoc analyses to support negotiations, renewals, pricing, and strategic decisions on demand.

Benchmarking & Comparative Performance

  • Design and maintain a standard benchmarking framework comparing performance across terminals, customers, carriers, and key operating metrics.
  • Deliver quarterly comparative analyses that surface margin gaps, pricing opportunities, and best practices, converting findings into recommendations that inform pricing, contract strategy, and revenue optimization.

Governed Reporting Ecosystem & Self-Service Analytics

  • Build and maintain the commercial reporting catalog and Power BI inventory, establishing ownership, standards, and version control, and reducing duplication by retiring redundant legacy reports.
  • Develop and advance the enterprise self-service analytics roadmap - standardized, reusable dashboards, compelling visualization, and progression toward predictive insight.

Commercial Data Governance & Stewardship

  • Define and document critical commercial data elements and standard definitions; centralize commercial information to achieve a single source of truth and maintain an active data stewardship model.
  • Support data compilation, master data techniques, and control activities; safeguard data quality across contract, customer, operational, and financial datasets.
  • Support data quality and requirements for Ironclad, the Business Rating Engine (BRE), CRM, and enterprise reporting; represent the Container Division in enterprise data governance forums and the Data Leads Council.

Commercial Data Journey Ownership

  • Own the Commercial Data Journey, advancing the Division along the Commercial Intelligence Maturity Path: (1) Expand Visibility across all terminals; (2) create a Single Commercial Information Environment; (3) Standardize & Govern data definitions and metrics; (4) Enable Commercial Intelligence supporting pricing, customer governance, strategic account planning, and enterprise decision-making.

Tools, Enablement & Cross-Functional Decision Support

  • Serve as power user and business owner of commercial dashboards, reporting tools, and data models (e.g., Power BI); drive automation and standardization and partner with IT and Finance to improve data accessibility.
  • Determine resource requirements and costs to optimize commercial reporting processes and systems; build and validate business cases for reporting and analytics investments.
  • Act as a connective analytical partner across Commercial, Finance, Operations, and IT; provide structured analysis for budget planning, pricing, and strategy; and mentor intern and junior analytical talent to sustain the SSA talent pipeline.

Adoption, Change Management & Enablement

  • Lead adoption and change management for new reporting standards, governed dashboards, and self-service analytics capabilities across the commercial teams.
  • Train and coach commercial users on self-service dashboards, reporting standards, and data definitions using both formal and informal methods; gather feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Economics, Data Science, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in commercial, financial, or data analysis, including delivery of recurring management reporting.
  • Strong data structuring capability - proven ability to organize, model, and standardize disparate, fragmented data into clean, reliable, decision-ready structures.
  • Demonstrated analytical prowess - rigorous, hypothesis-driven analysis that turns complex data into clear insight and recommendations.
  • Strong data visualization acumen - hands-on mastery of Power BI (and Excel) to build compelling, intuitive, executive-ready visuals and dashboards.
  • Strong communication and systems-thinking skills; ability to lead reporting standards and data governance through influence. Fluency in English (written and verbal).
  • Ability to travel (less than 10%) to customer sites, industry events, and SSA Marine locations may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6-8+ years of relevant analytical experience, ideally in complex, asset-intensive, or customer-driven organizations (maritime, terminals, logistics, or infrastructure a plus).
  • Experience establishing reporting catalogs, data definitions, or data stewardship/governance models; change leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL, cloud data platforms, and/or ERP systems; familiarity with contract, pricing, billing, or ERP data and how commercial terms translate into revenue.
