Position Summary

The Commodity Manager is responsible for securing the best overall value in quality, service, cost, delivery, and supplier performance for assigned commodities, products, and services. This role develops and executes sourcing strategies, leads supplier negotiations, administers complex and high-risk subcontracts, and ensures supplier compliance with cost, schedule, legal, regulatory, and performance requirements. The position serves as a key business partner to internal stakeholders and may provide technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to cross-functional teams and less experienced employees.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and execute sourcing and commodity strategies for high-value, long-lead-time, critical parts, equipment, materials, and services.
• Identify, evaluate, select, and qualify suppliers and manufacturers, including development of new supply sources.
• Lead quotation, proposal evaluation, and supplier selection activities; present recommendations for management review and approval.
• Solicit, analyze, and evaluate supplier proposals and quotations; negotiate pricing, terms, conditions, delivery, and service levels to achieve optimal business outcomes.
• Develop negotiation strategies using cost, pricing, market, and supplier performance data.
• Plan and conduct major contract and subcontract negotiations, including long-term agreements with key suppliers.
• Prepare and administer subcontracts, statements of work, supplier data requirements, contractual documents, purchase orders, and amendments in accordance with business and contract requirements.
• Perform material planning responsibilities for assigned commodities, including lead-time management, material requirements analysis, asset management, and related activities.
• Support concurrent engineering and new product development efforts by selecting and engaging suppliers capable of delivering cost-effective, producible, and reliable solutions.
• Conduct supplier site visits and evaluate supplier capability, capacity, delivery, quality, and overall business performance.
• Support or lead supplier certification, improvement, and performance management activities in partnership with technical, quality, and operations teams.
• Process purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders that accurately reflect negotiated pricing, schedules, terms, and conditions, including international supplier or subcontractor requirements as applicable.
• Monitor subcontract performance, expenditures, reporting requirements, and compliance with contract terms, conditions, budgets, and schedules.
• Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance internal procurement processes, systems, supplier performance, and overall supply chain effectiveness.
• Analyze data, identify trends, conduct comparative analyses, and recommend actions to improve cost, quality, delivery, and risk performance.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, commercial, aerospace, import/export, and industry regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures, including Government/Commercial Practices Manual requirements.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and consultant to management on significant sourcing, contracting, supplier, and commodity matters.
• Establish goals and objectives for assigned projects and support cross-functional initiatives as required.
• Train, mentor, and provide guidance to less experienced employees; may lead ad hoc teams or project-based activities.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge through industry engagement, continuing education, trade publications, networking, and professional associations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Contract Law, Program Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, supply chain management, contract administration, commodity management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating supplier agreements, managing complex supplier relationships, and supporting contract or subcontract administration.
• Strong knowledge of material requirements planning, procurement practices, sourcing processes, supplier management, and commodity strategy development.
• Working knowledge of applicable legal, contractual, regulatory, commercial, government, aerospace, or FAA-related procurement requirements.
• Proficiency with standard business software and purchasing or materials systems, such as EDI, MRP, ERP, or related platforms.
• Ability to analyze complex data, evaluate supplier and market conditions, identify risks, and develop effective recommendations.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to address complex or unique issues requiring sound judgment and modified approaches.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex policies, procedures, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
• Effective communication, negotiation, presentation, and influencing skills with internal stakeholders, suppliers, customers, and management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, lead cross-functional activities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to team and organizational goals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Eight or more years of increasingly responsible experience in procurement, sourcing, contract administration, or commodity management.
• Certified Purchasing Manager, Certified Professional in Supply Management, Certified Professional Contracts Manager, or related certification preferred.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries.
• Experience with international sourcing, import/export requirements, and supplier risk management.
