Position Summary	The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position in the Childhood Anxiety and Mood Disorders Program ( CHAAMP). This recruitment reflects CHAAMP's continued growth and is supported by its longstanding partnership with the Foundation of Hope, whose investment has played a vital role in advancing youth mental health research at UNC and beyond. Recruitment for this position is a priority under the leadership of Department Chair Dr. Warren Taylor. CHAAMP is a multidisciplinary clinical research program focused on the prevention, assessment, and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders across childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. Faculty conduct a broad range of research, from neuroimaging studies to randomized clinical trials, with a strong emphasis on team science, external funding success, and partnerships across academic, clinical, and community settings. The successful candidate will lead an innovative, externally funded research program focused on the prevention and treatment of youth mental health problems, particularly among school-age children (K-8). Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Risk factors underlying the co-occurrence of substance use and mental health disorders Community-based participatory research (CBPR) Mental health research in rural and historically underserved communities Development, evaluation, implementation, and dissemination of evidence-based prevention and intervention programs This position offers exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific innovation within a highly collaborative research environment. CHAAMP investigators bring expertise spanning developmental cognitive neuroscience, clinical trials, prevention and implementation science, community-engaged research, digital technologies, and mobile health. A distinctive feature of this position is CHAAMP's partnership with the Foundation of Hope, which provides flexible philanthropic support to generate pilot data, launch new research directions, bridge funding gaps, and protect time for scholarship. This support has repeatedly helped investigators develop projects that later secured federal funding. In addition to research leadership, the faculty member will mentor postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research staff, contributing to CHAAMP's strong culture of training and professional development. CHAAMP is committed to fostering an inclusive, collegial, and supportive environment and has a strong record of helping early-career investigators secure career development and independent research awards. New faculty can expect individualized mentorship, internal grant review and development support, and immediate access to established research infrastructure, community partnerships, and participant recruitment resources. Appointment rank, start-up support, and internal research resources will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, accomplishments, and research needs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements	PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in psychology, psychiatry, public health, social work or a related field. Demonstrated experience in clinical research focused on child or youth anxiety and mood disorders. Seeking candidates with either a demonstrated record of external research funding or clear potential to develop one. For early-career applicants, we recognize that this potential may be evidenced in many ways, including grant applications that have been submitted, scored, or are pending; career development, foundation, or training awards; a strong record of peer-reviewed publications; or a well-articulated and fundable program of research. Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and team-science environments.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience	Established record of external research funding as Principal Investigator. Research experience focused on early and school-age children. Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Comorbidity of substance use with anxiety and mood disorders, community-based participatory research, research with rural and/or historically underserved populations, development, implementation, and scaling of evidence-based prevention or intervention programs. Experience collaborating with community partners, healthcare systems, schools, or other real-world practice settings. Prior mentoring or supervision of trainees, research staff, or junior investigators.
