I. JOB OVERVIEW






Job Description Summary:
As a member of the GW Humanitarian Internship Program ( HIP) administrative team, the Program Manager oversees promotional, logistical, and programmatic aspects of the GW Humanitarian Internship Program and selected other career exposure programs, ensuring successful execution and growth. This role combines strategic partnership development, student experience management, program operations, and evaluation. The Program Manager, Humanitarian Internship Program serves as the primary liaison between GW leadership, host organizations, and students, delivering a high-impact experiential learning program aligned with GW's mission and Strategic Framework.

Key Responsibilities

Partnership Development & External Relations:

  • Work with the Associate Vice Provost and the Non-profit Employer Development Consultant to explore, identify, vet, and secure partnerships with humanitarian organizations.
  • Negotiate and maintain Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs), internship descriptions, and contact information with humanitarian organizations.
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with host organizations through regular check-in calls, surveys, and site visits.
  • Engage GW faculty and staff to identify, maintain, and expand areas of partnership between HIP and relevant GW departments, institutes, and programs (e.g., the Global Food Institute).


Program Marketing & Communications:

  • Manage HIP website content and updates.
  • Develop promotional materials and coordinate outreach campaigns.
  • Conduct information sessions for prospective students and partners.

Program Planning & Operations:

  • Establish annual program timelines and calendars.
  • Coordinate Leadership Team, Steering Committee and Review Team meetings, including agendas and reports.

Student Recruitment & Selection:

  • Manage application portal and submission process.
  • Train and support Review Team volunteers.
  • Oversee candidate review, selection, and matching with host organizations.
  • Communicate decisions and facilitate onboarding.
  • Coordinate with GW's International Services Office and the Praxis team to support and advise F-1 international students in HIP.

Student Experience & Support:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for students and host supervisors.
  • Monitor internship progress and troubleshoot issues.
  • Develop and implement a cohesive summer programming curriculum for HIP students, including orientation, bi-weekly training sessions, guest speakers, workshops, social events, and coordination of all associated logistics.

Program Evaluation, Reporting & Development:

  • Design and implement evaluation framework for student and partner feedback, and translate findings into programmatic improvements.
  • Analyze program data and prepare reports for Steering Committee and Office of the President.
  • Document outcomes and impact stories to support donor engagement, fundraising, and development efforts, in coordination with the Office of the President.

Event Coordination:

  • Plan and execute the annual poster session and other program events.
  • Help organize high-profile events involving university leadership.
  • Coach students on poster content and oversee production logistics.

Support for Other Programs

  • Assist Associate Vice Provost and Director of Employer Relations in securing agreements with international internship host organizations.
  • Assist Career Coach - International Affairs in supporting relationships with international internship host organizations.
  • Assist Employer Relations team in executing events throughout the year, including Career EXPO, Career Quest tips, regional employer site visits, and employer information sessions.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian or nonprofit sectors a plus.

Hiring Range $58,992.50 - $97,373.72
