DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on helping taxpayers understand and resolve issues with their accounts to support the fair and equitable collection of taxes. Success relies on clear communication, attention to detail, and an accurate understanding of PA tax laws, rules, and regulations. As a Tax Account Collections Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Customer Service: Communicate with taxpayers and their representatives over the phone and in writing to explain tax law, taxpayer responsibilities, and related requirements
  • Procedural Guidance: Help taxpayers and their representatives understand and complete various tax forms and follow filing procedures
  • Document Analysis: Research tax records to determine the status of each taxpayer's accounts and review documents from taxpayers for accuracy
  • Tax Calculations: Determine tax liability, penalty, and interest and create statements of accounts
  • Account Direction: Identify when accounts must be referred to other personnel or analysts for further review, research, or adjustment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of required in-office training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience reviewing tax documents and applying tax laws and rules and regulations and making taxpayer liability decisions; or
  • Three years of experience in the collection of taxes; or
  • Three year of experience in the provision of taxpayer assistance which involves the explanation of the application of tax laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the required knowledges, skills and abilities.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
