THE POSITION

The Custodial Worker 1 position with the Department of Human Services (DHS) offers an opportunity to support a clean and welcoming environment at the South Mountain Restoration Center. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position performs a wide range of cleaning and custodial tasks to maintain a safe, sanitary, and orderly environment throughout the South Mountain Restoration Center. The role supports daily operations by ensuring that assigned areas are cleaned, supplied, and cared for according to established procedures. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • General Cleaning: Mop floors, dust surfaces, scrub areas, wash furniture, clean lavatories, and maintain carpets
  • Linen Support: Prepare, deliver, and disinfect linen carts, tubs, racks, and related items
  • Equipment Use: Operate custodial equipment by following instructions and using proper safety techniques
  • Dining Care: Clean dining rooms, including tables, chairs, floors, window sills, walls, and doors
  • Special Cleaning: Clean assistive devices, mattresses, lifts, wheelchairs, curtains, and other equipment as assigned
  • Outdoor Upkeep: Sweep walks, remove snow, apply ice melt, and maintain building entrances

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will be scheduled rotating on and off duty days including weekends and holidays.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness and ability to work in Franklin County, Pennsylvania
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, or buffing)
  • Custodial or housekeeping work experience in a hospital, nursing home, correctional facility, fast food facility, restaurant, cafeteria, or school
  • Work experience collecting and disposing of infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Work experience in the following tasks: operating a floor scrubbing machine, using ladders to clean high areas, proper handling of cleaning chemicals, interacting with patients or residents, snow removal from walkways and entrances, changing light bulbs, cleaning furniture, mopping (wet or dry), and scrubbing
