Join The J.M. Smucker Company's iconic Orrville, Ohio manufacturing facility, home to the production of many of the products that have made Smucker's a trusted household name for more than 125 years. Our Orrville plant plays a critical role in producing jams, jellies, preserves, ice cream toppings, breakfast syrups, and other beloved products enjoyed by consumers across North America.

As the Technical Maintenance Manager, you will serve as the key technical and maintenance leader for the facility, partnering closely with operations leadership to drive equipment reliability, continuous improvement, and manufacturing excellence. This role serves as the plant's Progressive Maintenance Pillar Owner, driving critical performance metrics and leading initiatives that support Safety, Quality, Reliability, Efficiency, Cost, Delivery, and Sustainability. Additionally, this leader will be responsible for the development, coaching, and support of our Maintenance Coordinators while helping shape the future of one of Smucker's most historic manufacturing operations.

In this role you will:
  • Perform maintenance management by leading maintenance personnel and establishing priorities in maintenance schedules.
  • Lead the operating departments' Maintenance Coordinators and technicians to:
    • Develop their technical acumen.
    • Understand and apply Progressive Maintenance tools.
    • Prioritize work effectively through use of a CMMS.
    • Respond to process failures and breakdowns with a sense of urgency.
    • Train all levels of the organization to complete mechanical work.
  • Drive a high-performance work culture by engaging with team members on the floor and coaching them to problem solve, make decisions, and become self-reliant.
  • Coach operating teams and leadership on root cause identification, elimination of losses, and the use of problem-solving tools to identify gaps and prioritize work.
  • Responsible for electronic reliability data and improving methods for collecting accurate data.
  • Establish and track KPIs required to successfully manage the safety, quality, and efficiency of maintenance operations.
  • Partner closely with the Plant Engineer to develop and execute the 5-year capital investment strategy for the facility.
  • Participate in and/or lead improvement teams to drive targeted improvements that support plant and company objectives.
  • Address performance gaps through the implementation and coaching of Smucker Continuous Improvement methodologies while fostering a zero-loss culture.
  • Own a safety sub-key element and/or quality key element.
  • Support the continued modernization and reliability of a flagship Smucker manufacturing facility that produces some of the company's most recognized brands and products.
What we are looking for: Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Engineering degree preferred.
  • Experience with maintenance work development, planning, and scheduling.
  • Experience leading teams and collaborating across multiple functions.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Experience with a CMMS is required (Oracle eAM preferred).
Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing operations experience preferred. Food or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience coaching and developing maintenance technicians, identifying capability gaps, and building plans to strengthen team capability for current and future business needs.
  • Ability to independently gather, validate, and analyze data to develop and communicate optimal solutions.
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude, including hands-on maintenance expertise and the ability to teach others.
  • Project management experience, including managing project costs, schedules, and resources.
  • Operates with discipline by setting objectives, prioritizing work, and following through on commitments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Candidates are expected to remain in this role for 3 to 5 years and be open to relocation for future career opportunities within The J.M. Smucker Company.
