JOB DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THE ROLE

FOX News Media is looking for a Principal Product Manager to own the video product experience across FOX News digital properties. This is a senior individual contributor role for a video product leader who combines deep technical fluency in player technology and content delivery infrastructure with the product instincts to translate that knowledge into exceptional audience experiences.

This role reports directly to the head of product and partners closely with editorial video leadership, ensuring that content strategy and product strategy remain tightly aligned. You will be the product authority on everything related to how FOX News digital audiences find, start, and experience video; from the player to the pipeline that feeds it.

The right candidate has done this before at a meaningful scale. You understand how live streaming infrastructure works end-to-end, you can engage engineering teams on player architecture and delivery pipeline decisions with credibility, and you know how to build video product experiences that perform under the pressure of breaking news and peak traffic moments. This is a high-visibility role with executive exposure and you will be expected to communicate strategy and performance clearly at the senior leadership level.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Video Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Own the end-to-end video product strategy for FOX News digital: live streaming, VOD, vertical video, and the destinations and surfaces that serve video audiences across web and mobile
  • Define and maintain a roadmap that reflects audience needs, editorial priorities, technical constraints, and business objectives, sequenced against the broader content and engagement roadmap
  • Identify opportunities to differentiate the FOX News digital video experience and build toward a best-in-class product standard for a live news environment
  • Coordinate with adjacent PMs where video creates dependencies, in particularly around tentpole events, content discovery surfaces, and personalization

Player Technology & Pipeline Partnership

  • Serve as the product authority on video player technology, understanding playback behavior, player SDK capabilities and constraints, adaptive bitrate streaming, and the performance metrics that define a quality video experience
  • Develop and maintain deep fluency in the content delivery workflows and pipelines that feed the player: encoding and transcoding, packaging, CDN delivery, metadata management, and video asset workflows
  • Partner directly with engineering teams responsible for player development and delivery infrastructure. You'll need to write requirements, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and make informed product decisions that account for pipeline realities
  • Define the performance standards for the video experience from startup time, buffering rate, quality adaptation, and error handling, and work with engineering to instrument, monitor, and continually improve against them
  • Identify pipeline gaps or constraints that limit the product experience and escalate with clear requirements and business impact framing

Live & Breaking News Video

  • Own the product readiness standard for live video during breaking news and major events, including load testing, failover planning, and real-time monitoring protocols
  • Partner with the Tentpoles to ensure the video experience is ready for and differentiated during FNM's highest-traffic moments
  • Define the product experience for live news streaming across all access states whether authenticated, unauthenticated, metered, and fully open, and ensure the experience serves both business and audience goals

Editorial Video Partnership

  • Maintain a strong working relationship with editorial video leadership, ensuring product decisions reflect content strategy priorities and that editorial teams have the product surfaces they need to deliver video effectively
  • Translate editorial video priorities into product requirements, bridging the gap between what editorial wants to publish and what the product can reliably deliver at scale
  • Manage the dotted-line stakeholder relationship with editorial video leadership with professionalism and clarity, keeping alignment high without allowing content strategy to direct product architecture decisions

Cross-Functional Execution

  • Write clear, detailed PRDs and technical requirements that give engineering teams what they need to build confidently
  • Own sprint ceremonies at the pod level, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and sprint reviews
  • Drive delivery across multiple workstreams simultaneously, maintaining momentum without dedicated delivery support

Data & Measurement

  • Define and own the video performance dashboard: player metrics, engagement depth, video start rate, completion rate, and audience retention
  • Partner with data and analytics teams to instrument the video experience end-to-end, ensuring visibility from content ingestion through playback completion
  • Use performance data to identify the highest-leverage improvements and communicate impact to senior leadership clearly

AI-Powered Ways of Working

  • Actively uses AI agents as a core part of daily product workflows, not as an occasional tool but as a practiced, default approach to getting work done
  • Applies AI to research, synthesis, and analysis, including competitive research, user behavior pattern recognition, and data summarization
  • Leverages AI for PRD drafting, user story creation, and sprint preparation

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Required

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with meaningful ownership of video product surfaces at scale
  • Deep technical fluency in video player technology: you understand how players work, what SDK capabilities and constraints look like in practice, and how adaptive bitrate streaming, DRM, and playback error handling affect the user experience
  • Hands-on familiarity with content delivery pipelines: encoding and transcoding workflows, CDN delivery, HLS/DASH packaging, metadata management, and how the pipeline architecture affects what the product can and cannot do
  • Proven experience owning live streaming product experiences. You have shipped through breaking news or live event moments and understand what it takes to keep a live video product stable under peak load
  • Ability to write product requirements that engineering teams can act on directly and are technically specific enough to be unambiguous, audience-focused enough to keep the experience goals clear
  • Strong stakeholder management skills: you can hold productive working relationships with editorial and executive partners while maintaining clear product authority over architecture and roadmap decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication: you can present video strategy and performance to senior leadership with confidence and clarity
  • Ability to operate independently as a senior IC across multiple workstreams without close supervision
  • Active, practiced use of AI agents across research, synthesis, PRD drafting, stakeholder communications, and sprint preparation
  • Regular, on-site attendance in the New York office a minimum of 3 days per week is an essential function of this position

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  • Experience at a digital news, broadcast, or live streaming media company
  • Familiarity with video ad delivery: server-side ad insertion (SSAI), client-side ad insertion (CSAI), and how ad tech integrations interact with the player and pipeline
  • Experience with video player platforms such as JW Player, Video.js, Brightcove, or comparable technologies
  • Background working alongside or embedded with video engineering teams responsible for streaming infrastructure
  • Track record improving video engagement metrics - start rate, completion rate, watch time - through product iteration
