Status: This is a full-time; hourly position

Hours: Monday - Thursday: 5:00am - 2:00pm & Friday: 5:00am - 11:00am; overtime as needed

JOB SUMMARY: The Rough Grinder is responsible for removing excess metal from memorial castings and vase cores using straight and angled grinders to ensure a smooth finish; this position does require the individual to be cross trained in other areas due to the physical demands.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Transfer memorial plates from the accumulating conveyor to the sanding table or grinding booth; approximately 100 plates per day, with an average weight of 30 pounds per plate.
  • Use an angle grinder with a hard fiber disc, weighing approximately 8 pounds, to grind the back of the memorial plate to remove any file or gating marks and ensure it is completely smooth.
  • Use an angle grinder with a hard fiber disc and straight grinder with a diamond wheel to grind clean the inside and outside of the vase core.
  • Use vase gauge to ensure completed vase cores will have correct fit with it's plastic sleeve.
  • Use the belt sander to remove burrs, smooth and straighten the sides of the memorial plate.
  • Pre-grind, grind and sand the large flat features of all architectural and special signage (i.e. bevels, scrolls, accolades, etc.) using appropriate tooling and technique to achieve a smooth finish.
  • Inspect all work completed for defects to ensure product meets quality standards and work order specifications.
  • Route all completed to the next area of production as directed on the work order.

Requirements

  • Must possess strong abilities to exercise patience, as well as display sustained concentration and endurance in using fine motor skills due to the precise nature of the work required in this position.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production.
  • Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency.
  • General math skills.
  • Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric.
  • Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed.
  • Stand and work with heavy tools continuously.
