About JP Donovan
JP Donovan Construction LLC is a vertically integrated general contractor operating in partnership with JP Donovan Fabrication LLC and JP Donovan Precision Machine LLC. This structure gives us something few contractors on the Space Coast can offer: the ability to self-perform critical scopes of work including structural fabrication and erection, heavy civil, piping and tubing, and precision-machined components. We build the facilities, launch infrastructure, and industrial structures that support America's aerospace industry, and we do it with our own people, our own shops, and direct control over quality and schedule.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations on large, fast-paced, highly complex aerospace construction projects in the Cape Canaveral area. This is a dedicated, project dedicated position, you will own the field management on one major project at a time, typically valued between $5M and $20M or larger, involving launch infrastructure, processing facilities, and other mission-critical aerospace structures for government agencies and commercial aerospace clients alike.
You will be the on-site leader responsible for safety, schedule, quality, and coordination of all field activities, directing both JP Donovan's self-perform crews and subcontractor forces in a demanding, high-visibility environment where precision, planning, and accountability are non-negotiable.
What You'll Do
Field Leadership
  • Serve as the senior on-site leader for all field operations, directing daily construction activities from mobilization through commissioning and closeout
  • Lead, coordinate, and hold accountable JP Donovan self-perform crews, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Partner with the Project Manager on overall project execution, serving as the field counterpart to the PM's commercial and administrative leadership
  • Set the tone on site: professionalism, craftsmanship, and accountability
Schedule & Production
  • Develop and maintain the field execution plan, including three-week look-ahead schedules, crew loading, and sequencing
  • Drive production to meet or beat the master schedule; identify constraints early and resolve them before they impact critical path
  • Coordinate self-perform fabrication and machining scopes with JP Donovan Fabrication and JP Donovan Precision Machine to align shop deliveries with field installation sequences
  • Manage logistics, laydown, crane and heavy equipment planning, and site access in a constrained, secure-site environment
Safety
  • Own site safety performance; enforce JP Donovan's safety program and all OSHA, NASA, Space Force, and client-specific safety requirements, including those of commercial aerospace operators
  • Lead pre-task planning, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and incident prevention efforts
  • Maintain a zero-compromise safety culture appropriate to active launch-site operations
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all work is installed in accordance with contract documents, approved submittals, and applicable codes and specifications
  • Manage quality control in coordination with QC personnel, including inspections, testing, and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with site-specific security, environmental, and operational requirements at KSC and CCSFS, including launch-day constraints and controlled work windows
Coordination & Communication
  • Represent JP Donovan in daily and weekly coordination meetings with owners, government and commercial client representatives, inspectors, and other site stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, manpower logs, and field documentation
  • Communicate proactively with the Project Manager on progress, risks, changes, and field conditions affecting cost or schedule
What You Bring
Required
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive construction supervision experience on large, fast-paced, highly complex industrial, heavy civil, or commercial projects, including experience as lead superintendent on projects of $20M or greater
  • Proven ability to manage self-perform crews and multiple subcontractor trades simultaneously
  • Strong command of construction scheduling, sequencing, and production management
  • Thorough working knowledge of structural steel, concrete, mechanical, and electrical scopes typical of heavy industrial construction
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain badging for access to Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; calm and decisive under pressure
  • Proficiency with standard construction management and scheduling tools
  • Valid driver's license
Preferred
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Direct experience on aerospace and launch infrastructure projects at KSC, CCSFS, or comparable facilities for government agencies or commercial aerospace clients
  • Experience working with Construction Management software platforms such as Autodesk Forma or equivalent
  • Familiarity with government contracting requirements, secure-site protocols, and controlled work environments
  • Experience coordinating fabricated and machined components from shop to field
  • Crane and rigging planning experience for heavy lifts
  • Degree in construction or related engineering is preferred, but can be substituted for large scale relevant experience.
Work Environment
  • Full-time, on-site field position in the Cape Canaveral area
  • Active construction site conditions, including outdoor work in Florida weather, secure-site access procedures, and occasional schedule adjustments driven by launch operations
  • Extended hours may be required to meet critical schedule milestones
