Job Summary




Lead major reviews (CDR, RID, FCA/PCA) and acceptance reviews. Ensure that design complies with system requirements as well as company contractual commitments. Assists, when directed, on engineering projects.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities




Lead major reviews



  • Critical Design Review (CDR) Review Item Discrepancy (RID).
  • Functional Configuration Audit/Physical Configuration Audit (FCA/PCA).
  • Acceptance Reviews for each deliverable.



General Job Descriptions



  • Continuous requirements evaluation and validation (Fracture Control NASA Std 5019, Flow-Induced Vibration SLS-RQMT-166).
  • Ongoing evaluation and negotiation of shared engineering responsibilities with Boeing for SLS.
  • Driving requirements fulfillment throughout development and production.
  • Driving resolution of Review Item Discrepancy (RIDs) generated during reviews.
  • Ensuring that test procedures meet validation requirements (Structural Design and Test Factors for Safety for Space Hardware NASA STD 5001).
  • Review of test data to ensure compliance.
  • Anomaly resolution and Root Cause/Corrective Action closeout.
  • Subcontract Data Requirements List (SDRL) Deliverables - Development, Submittal, Tracking and comment resolution.
  • Facilitate resolution of production NDE issues.
  • Coordination of pour foam process development with Boeing (Foam STM0878-01, Primer STM0907-01, Adhesive STM0882-01).
  • Facilitate development of inspection criteria and techniques (ASTM D4541, ASTM D1621).
  • Monitor development of required AP facility for primer and pour foam application.
  • Supporting hardware production, issue resolution and monitoring of in-process testing.
  • Ability to lead for major projects, providing required engineering analyses and calculations. Guides and coordinates the work of lower grade engineers, designers and technicians engaged in the design, fabrication, test and evaluation of parts components and systems.
  • When required, acts as project coordinator with members of customer service, manufacturing engineering, production control, purchasing, manufacturing and quality assurance in the production of first article hardware and the qualification and production of those items.
  • Plans assigned projects and interprets all technical data to meet contractual requirements. Reviews customer designs, prepares work schedules and assures that all necessary items and personnel are available to complete the program. Coordinates in the initiation of quality standards to comply with customer requirements.
  • Evaluates test and engineering data and implements any required design or data changes. Recommends program modifications, additions and/or deletions.
  • Controls and monitors assigned projects. Provide engineering support to planning generation, tool design, quality assurance, engineering laboratories and manufacturing. Performs troubleshooting, as necessary, and maintains required liaison with other company departments to support assigned projects.
  • In an appropriate manner, conducts all required customer liaison during course of planning and performance of projects. When requested, attends customer negotiations to furnish technical and engineering data to support technical proposals. May direct customer or prospective customer contact regarding proposals and/or customer relations activities as necessary. Although the home base for engineering activities will be at the Los Alamitos, CA facility, must be willing and able to travel within the US and to other countries as needed.
  • Contacts/visits vendors and subcontractors, as required, to support assigned projects. Initiates and provides these companies with all necessary technical documentation.
  • Performs various other duties such as investigating and recommending new equipment, tooling or materials to produce or test products; prepares correspondence relating to assigned projects; refers patent matters to appropriate personnel; furnishes engineering support to the Material Review Board; reviews discrepancies with Quality Assurance; maintains an awareness of the latest developments within his/her field and reports accordingly.

Education and Experience





  • BS degree in a related technical field (engineering/physics) from an accredited program. MS in the same is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of (7-10) years experience in an aerospace environment

  • Must have firm understanding of aerospace engineering fundamentals.
  • Must have a working knowledge of fundamental stress analysis methodologies and material properties of metals, as well as a fundamental understanding of metal forming and fabrication processes.
  • High pressure pneumatic (metal) duct system and cryogenic duct system experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to solve problems proactively, make independent decisions and have good time management skills.
  • Must be customer service oriented (internal as well as external).
  • Requires strong leadership ability.
  • Must be a cooperative team player.
  • Requires superior organizational skills and detail accuracy.
  • Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Plan daily activities to ensure multiple projects or requirements are met.
  • Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral.
