THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is seeking a motivated Records Specialist 1 who is ready to make a positive impact. This role offers the chance to support accurate inmate records that help keep operations running smoothly. You will join a team that values accuracy, commitment, and service. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps maintain and verify inmate records within the Centralized Sentence Computation Unit. It also supports the development of skills needed to compute formal sentence structures. As a Records Specialist 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Record Verification: Review criminal history information and ensure data is accurate and complete
  • Sentence Computation: Compute and review sentence structures and analyze related legal documents
  • Cross Referencing: Compare information across multiple agencies to confirm consistency
  • Documentation Review: Examine court orders to determine appropriate actions related to inmate status
  • Communication: Respond to questions from inmates, staff, and external agencies about completed records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment. 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to three days a week with approval from your supervisor after the successful completion of your probationary or training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of clerical or correctional custodial experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training

Other Requirements:

  • You must successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
