The University of Arizona Athletics Department invites you to apply to the role of the Nutritionist II.

The Nutritionist II will provide clinical, food service and education/outreach services provided to optimize the health and
performance of student-athletes. Primary responsibilities include individual nutrition counseling; team education; menu development; serving as a food and nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, and sports performance staff; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.

This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and travel as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

Nutrition Counseling:

  • Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of
    student athletes in the context of athletic performance and health.
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training,
    competition, recovery from exercise, weight management, hydration, immunity,
    disordered eating, travel, and supplementation.
  • Provide personalized meal and snack plans to promote
    achieving short- and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health.
  • Meet with coaches and student-athletes in an individualized
    setting, provide nutrition counseling that will serve staff and
    student-athletes when they are on their own and not participating in a team
    meal or snack.

Nutrition Education for Teams, Groups, or Wellness Programs:

  • Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topics
    related to nutrition for performance.
  • Recommend appropriate pre, during, and post-exercise fluids
    and snacks for individual team practice, and competition.
  • Educate coaching staff and student-athletes on nutrition
    plans and why certain food or recovery items are needed during practices and
    competitions.

Food Service and Menu Development:

  • Collaborate with food service provider to develop and manage team meal menus and
    catering.
  • Oversee nutrition for team travel (catering, hotels,
    airlines, competition).
  • Develop and deliver nutrition education for food service
    personnel during travel and while at home.

Professional Development:

  • Develop and implement an individualized plan for professional growth
    and development including participation in professional organizations and
    activities, workshops, seminars, and development programs.

Medical:

  • Develop and implement all nutrition related medical policies
    for student-athletes.

Other:

  • Budget accountability and additional duties as assigned.

    plan, establish priorities and successfully manage multiple priority projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive

  • Knowledge of department related NCAA and Big 12 rules and
    compliance.

  • Dedication and motivation to initiate, lead and support
    value-added project.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Employees are frequently required to lift/move/transport up to 40 lbs.
  • Outdoor Environment: Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.
  • Extreme Cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for more than an hour.
  • Extreme Heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for more than an hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advance learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, State licensure and registration required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • CSSD certified.
