Compensation for this role is $130,000-$150,000 The role may also be eligible for bonus or commission pay. Actual compensation may vary due to factors such as experience and skill set.

As Director of Customs Brokerage at RXO, you will provide strategic, operational, and commercial leadership across our multi-location Customs Brokerage operation while partnering with business leaders to build a fully integrated cross-border solution. This role requires an entrepreneurial, hands-on leader who can scale operations, strengthen compliance, and drive growth by shaping the future strategy of the brokerage function, its capabilities, and customer interface.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Customs Brokerage operation, ensuring alignment to RXO business objectives and growth priorities
  • Design, standardize, and optimize operating procedures to drive consistency, efficiency, and scalability across all brokerage locations
  • Own and lead the regulatory compliance program, ensuring adherence to all applicable U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), international customs regulations, and trade laws
  • Establish and maintain audit-ready processes, including internal controls, documentation standards, and broker compliance oversight
  • Serve as the accountable leader for compliance risk management, proactively identifying, mitigating, and resolving regulatory risks and escalations
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, technology, and commercial teams to enhance system integration, streamline workflows, and ensure compliant customer onboarding and SOP execution
  • Engage directly with customers, supporting onboarding, solution design, and ongoing relationship management to drive retention and growth while ensuring compliant service delivery
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities, leveraging market insights and internal collaboration to expand RXO's customs brokerage offerings
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on productivity, service quality, and operational discipline
  • Lead, develop, and mentor team members, building a high-performing, accountable, and collaborative organization across distributed teams
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics to ensure RXO maintains a strong and compliant market position
  • Provide strategic leadership in navigating a dynamic tariff and global trade environment, ensuring rapid adaptation to regulatory changes while minimizing risk and protecting customer outcomes

What you'll need to excel:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • Licensed U.S. Customs Broker (required)
  • 7 years of experience in a 3PL Global Freight Forwarding or Customs Brokerage organization, with at least 5 years of leadership experience managing both remote and local employees
  • Deep knowledge of domestic and international customs regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrated ownership of regulatory compliance programs, including audit management and risk mitigation
  • Demonstrated ability to balance operational execution, compliance, and commercial growth

It'd be great if you also have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Sales or business development experience within cross-border or brokerage services
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative customer relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience driving process improvement and operational standardization across multiple locations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
