THE POSITION

The Department of General Services is looking for a Painter who enjoys working with skill and precision. This role gives you the opportunity to perform a range of journeyman level duties related to the application of paint, wallpaper, or vinyl coverings within the Capitol Complex, Annex Complex and outlying facilities. You will help maintain important state buildings and keep them in top shape. Join our team and take pride in work that helps everyone who visits or works in these facilities.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on skilled painting tasks that support the upkeep of buildings and office spaces across the Capitol Complex and surrounding facilities to include estimating material requirements and supplies. As a Painter, you will perform the following duties:

  • Surface Preparation: Prepare walls and surfaces by removing paint and smoothing areas before applying new coatings
  • Painting Application: Apply paint to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment
  • Repair Work and Equipment Care: Make minor repairs to surfaces using materials such as spackle or plaster, maintain tools, clean equipment, and keep the work area safe and orderly
  • Mixing Paints: Mix oils and colors to create needed shades and maintain records of custom blends
  • Wall Coverings: Install or remove wallpaper or vinyl coverings on various surfaces
  • Winter Maintenance: Mandatory snow and ice removal, spread deicing agents, and operate spreaders and snow blowers

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is considered essential. You will be required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Building Trades Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in the painting trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a motor vehicle license.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
