POSITION SPECIFICS

The Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization is seeking a qualified candidate for the newly created position ofIndustry Relations Coordinator for the makerspace, OriginLabs.

Reporting to theOriginLabsDirector, theIndustry Relations Coordinatoris responsible forthe oversight, management, and execution of OriginLabs' advanced manufacturing workforce development and small/medium business assistance efforts, including the Mobile Automated Process Solutions (MAPS) for Manufacturing Modernization initiative. The successful candidate will understand a broad range of fabrication techniques and exhibit specific competency and aptitude with digital design and fabrication, robotics, automation, and additive manufacturing.

This position is a full-time, on-site, 3-year contract which will include significant travel, some evening and weekend hours, and supervision of part-time employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site visits at partners' industrial and/or manufacturing locations to assess current processes and design and implement automated and robotic efficiency and productivity improvements.
  • Design, fabricate, and integrate bespoke automated systems that address specific partner/customer manufacturing needs.
  • Mentor and train hourly employees in advanced manufacturing methodology, with an emphasis on skill relevant to employment in automation and robotics fields.
  • Act as OriginLabs' primary point of contact for industry partners and business owners.
  • In coordination with the OriginLabs Director, hire, train, and act as direct supervisor for hourly employees.
  • In coordination with the OriginLabs Service Bureau Manager, design and implement educational programming based on field experiences.
  • Meet with Director periodically to assess program effectiveness and recommend changes to program content,policies,and procedures accordingly.
  • Manage abudgetallocated by the Directorforhourlypersonnel, equipment, operations,consumablesand other resources.
  • Administrative and reporting duties, including the creation and presentation of client assessment reports, documentation of client interaction, the collection of program metrics, and periodic grant activity reporting.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience withanalog and digitalfabrication equipment, design, and prototyping is required.
  • Experience supportingor managinga fabrication lab,service bureau, manufacturer or similar operation is required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and budget management experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced manufacturing materials and methods, automation, robotics, additive manufacturing, digital fabrication, and attention to craft and detail is required.
  • Ability to execute on a timeline.
  • Experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
  • Experience in educational workshop planning and instruction is a plus.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $61,800.00 - $102,300.00.
