Applies skills as a seasoned clinical applications professional to projects of medium size at all levels of complexity, or portions of large projects.

The Epic Build Analyst's role includes the design, build, configuration, and support of research projects within UCSF's APeX Enabled Research (AER) team. Most projects will be in partnership with other UCSF technical teams and involve highly customized research solutions. Communication skills and inventive technical solutioning are crucial.

The AER team provides a large array of services to the UCSF Research community, including project consultation, grant support, budget estimations, and project implementation and support. Project examples include:

  • Development of EHR-based interventions via clinical trials embedded within healthcare delivery systems to generate scientific evidence while delivering healthcare.

    • Enabling UCSF researchers with algorithms, digital tools and / or clinical interventions with strong evidence of feasibility and acceptability.

    • Develop technical approaches and budgets in order to implement these tools within the electronic medical record.

    • Supporting the development of scalable, low cost infrastructure to enable ongoing research.

The APeX Enabled Epic Build Analyst will provide support the UCSF clinical research community by appliying their advanced Epic skills to build, configure and support projects of medium size at all levels of complexity.

Plans, implements and supports clinical software, operating systems and / or distributed clinical information systems of moderate scope and complexity to support research and investigator-led innovations in the health system.

Plans and develops improvements in functionality and efficiency of clinical applications. Liaison between vendors and IT leadership.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • Two years of combined experience as an Epic Analyst or other Health IT-related role
  • Epic Certification for Inpatient or Ambulatory (Core Applications)
  • Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
  • Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train, support, and work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems at all professional and technical levels.
  • Detail-oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on deadline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical applications users in a specific, clear, and concise manner.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION:

  • Epic Certification for Inpatient or Ambulatory (Core Applications)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of combined experience as an Epic Analyst or other Health IT-related role
  • Epic Ancillary applications (Beacon, Willow, Beaker, etc. )
  • Clarity Data Model Certification
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to design and execute tests, analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses.
  • Ability to work with senior staff and managers and fellow team members, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.
