Instructional Design Specialist
Contract Details
- Duration: 6-month contract
- Location: Onsite in Norfolk, Virginia
- Pay Rate: $48.28/hour
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Instructional Design Specialist to design, develop, and deliver engaging learning solutions that align with business objectives and performance outcomes. This role is heavily focused on end-to-end instructional design and development, supporting high-impact workforce capability initiatives including data literacy, AI enablement, client-centric skills, and product knowledge training. The ideal candidate is a production-focused instructional designer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple concurrent deliverables, and has strong expertise in modern eLearning development tools and adult learning methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Design & Development
- Design and develop training programs using the full ADDIE framework (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate)
- Create learning experiences across multiple delivery formats, including:
- Instructor-Led Training (ILT)
- Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT)
- eLearning and self-paced digital learning
- Blended and asynchronous learning solutions
- Develop instructional materials such as:
- Storyboards
- Facilitator guides
- Participant workbooks
- Assessments
- Job aids
- Build interactive eLearning modules using Articulate Storyline and Rise
Needs Analysis & Learning Strategy
- Conduct needs assessments to identify performance gaps and learning opportunities
- Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to define learning objectives and outcomes
- Recommend instructional strategies and delivery approaches based on learner and business needs
- Align learning solutions with organizational initiatives and change management efforts
Program Development & Execution
- Support learning initiatives from concept through implementation
- Participate in project scoping, planning, prioritization, and execution
- Develop prototypes, iterate content, and prepare solutions for deployment
- Coordinate implementation activities and support learner adoption
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Design and execute evaluation strategies to measure learning effectiveness
- Analyze learner feedback, assessments, and performance metrics
- Recommend enhancements to learning content, processes, and technologies
- Continuously improve training experiences and delivery methods
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner cross-functionally with business leaders, SMEs, and project teams
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels
- Contribute to a collaborative and continuous learning culture
Required Qualifications
Instructional Design Expertise
- Strong knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theory
- Demonstrated experience applying the ADDIE model in professional environments
- Experience designing assessments and evaluating learning effectiveness
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with:
- Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise)
- Camtasia
- Microsoft Office 365 (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience developing content across multiple learning modalities
Professional Skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production-driven environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across remote or cross-functional teams
- Learning agility and curiosity, particularly around emerging technologies and AI
- Strong project and stakeholder management capabilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Degreed or similar learning experience platforms
- Basic graphic design and multimedia editing experience
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite tools such as:
- Audition
- Premiere
- Photoshop
- Illustrator
- Experience with SharePoint Online
- Familiarity with social or collaborative learning environments
- Experience supporting change management initiatives
- Experience conducting performance gap analyses
- Financial services industry experience preferred
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field preferred
- 3+ years of instructional design and development experience
- Experience creating both eLearning and instructor-led training programs
- Portfolio or samples of instructional design work required
