Job duties

40% Web and Social Media

  • Create web pages for various news stories and a landing page for our E-Newsletter. Familiarity with Drupal and Google docs required.
  • Update Social media channels: must have working knowledge of various social media audiences, site specifications and good basic written communication skills. Will sometimes have to reword stories to fit those requirements.

60% Internal Communications and Newsletter

  • Preparation of photos to specifications provided by the College for use in the E-Newsletter. Must have a good working understanding of resizing photographs in a graphics program.
  • Assistance with media campaign for a summer lecture series. Familiarity with Canva and google slides required.
  • Communicate with students who have won student awards, collate their answers and update our various award websites. Familiarity with Drupal and good written communication skills required.
  • Help audit directory using a spreadsheet provided. Must have a good knowledge of Excel & Drupal

The SPA Communications Assistant supports the communications for the School of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Science and Engineering. This work is both project based (supporting specific short term display and digital projects) and routine (updating weekly newsletter and advertisements). This position contributes to the development of our internal and public calendars, newsletters, and the School's web presence.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • BA in Journalism or Communications
  • Available to work ~20 hours per week during business hours (8:00AM-5:00PM, Monday - Friday). Hours may be adjusted to include evenings or weekend hours for special events.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Canva and google slides required
  • Knowledge of web site terms and features
  • Familiarity with Drupal and Drupal Lite Adobe design software; Photoshop
  • Programming

Preferred qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software programs
  • Proven experience handling multiple projects and working under deadlines
  • Able to both be a team player and work independently

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
