In the OSP Line Maintenance & Construction I role, you will perform the general labor associated with outside plant line maintenance and construction. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with the maintenance, repairs, and installation of communications facilities (both buried and aerial). Work is performed in accordance with state and local regulations in a safe manner.

Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the Parsons, TN warehouse located at: 264 E Main St - Parsons, TN 38363.

This position can be hired at either an OSP Line Maintenance & Construction I (requisition ID #2026-29435)or OSP Line Maintenance & Construction II (requisition ID #2026-29436) depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Different job postings exist for each of these positions. Please reference each job posting for the minimum qualifications required for each role and submit an application for each level that you are both interested and qualified for.



Responsibilities

    Performs general line maintenance in various weather conditions while utilizing safety fundamentals.
    • Assists with and performs the maintenance and repairs of copper, fiber, and coax cable according to maps, staking sheets, and locate markings.
    • Assists in tree removals from aerial plant, including right of way tree trimming as needed.
    • Assists with all DSA structure support repairs (wooden, metal decking).
    • Installs, replaces, and/or sets enclosures (buried and aerial) vaults, pedestals, and handholes.
    • Climbs poles, ladders, towers, and other structures as needed; uses bucket truck when required.
    • Assists with fiber, copper and coax splicing and repairs.
    • Uses hand tools, cable locators and test equipment.
    • Marks/labels fiber optic and/or copper facilities.
    • Uses dispatching application and associated tools
      Assists with and performs the transportation of required construction equipment to and from the worksite.
    • Performs landscape restoration after project completion.


Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications

  • 6+ months experience in any combination of the following areas: customer service, electrical, utility construction -OR-technical certification (or higher) -OR- current military service, or prior military service with honorable discharge
  • Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet TDS's business needs including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and to our customers' needs.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and remain eligible for DOT requirements

Other Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL. A current CDL is preferred at hire, but TDS will train and certify eligible associates through its in-house CDL certification program after hire.
  • Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Training course curriculum.
  • Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Physical requirements may vary based on company needs: Ability to dig, lift and climb.
  • Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed. May be required to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate.
