System Interoperability Engineer Principal

Odyssey Systems is seeking a highly experienced Systems Interoperability and Integration Engineer SME to provide senior-level systems engineering and integration support to DoD programs located at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. This role involves leading platform architecture, Kubernetes-based integration, DevSecOps implementation, and AWS cloud engineering for Platform One's Big Bang product. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Kubernetes, Helm, AWS, DevSecOps, and secure platform integration within DoD environments.

In this Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) role, you will provide expert-level support to Department of Defense (DoD) programs by assisting government leadership with decision-making, planning, and execution throughout the acquisition lifecycle. You will apply your technical and/or professional expertise to ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations, contribute to mission success, and help deliver critical capabilities to the warfighter.

Platform Architecture & Systems Engineering

Lead the design, architecture, and technical evolution of the Big Bang product and its supporting infrastructure.
• Define and maintain system-level architectures for Kubernetes-based platform services operating primarily in AWS.
• Translate product requirements and mission needs into actionable technical designs and architectural decisions.

Kubernetes & Helm Expertise

• Serve as a technical authority for Helm-based orchestration of Kubernetes platforms and workloads.
• Design, manage, and evolve Helm charts supporting platform services, applications, and integrations.
• Ensure Kubernetes clusters and platform components follow best practices for configuration management, upgrades, and lifecycle management.

DevSecOps Leadership

• Champion DevSecOps principles, ensuring security is integrated across the full software delivery lifecycle.
• Guide CI/CD pipeline design, automated testing, vulnerability scanning, and policy enforcement.
• Advise on secure software supply chain practices, container security, and continuous compliance approaches.

Cloud Engineering & AWS

• Architect and oversee AWS infrastructure supporting Big Bang, including networking, compute, storage, identity, and security services.
• Ensure cloud resources are configured, maintained, and updated in accordance with approved security baselines and the system ATO.
• Evaluate and recommend cloud service changes to improve performance, cost efficiency, security, and operational resilience.

Government Advisory & Product Support

• Act as a senior technical advisor to the Government Product Manager, providing recommendations on platform capabilities, architectural tradeoffs, and roadmap decisions.
• Assess proposed changes to the product or infrastructure for technical feasibility, security impact, and ATO alignment.
• Support audits, assessments, and technical reviews related to cybersecurity, compliance, and operational readiness.

Integration & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Coordinate with platform engineers, security teams, cloud providers, and mission partners to ensure successful system integration.
• Support onboarding of new capabilities, tools, and services into the Big Bang ecosystem.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Secret (with ability to obtain TS/SCI)

Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree

Years of experience: 10+ years of experience five of which must be in the DoD

Technical Expertise

• Kubernetes platform architecture and operations
• Helm-based orchestration and chart development
• AWS cloud infrastructure (networking, compute, storage, identity, security)
• DevSecOps practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and vulnerability management
• Secure software supply chain and container security
• System architecture design and integration in cloud-native environments
• ATO alignment and compliance within DoD environments

• Ability to serve as a trusted technical advisor to Government leadership
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
