Rutgers University - Camden seeks an application developer. Reporting to the Assistant Director of IT/Application Development, the Application Developer provides n-tier application development and maintenance support to Rutgers University Camden Information Technology (
RUCIT). The position is primarily focused on: developing, correcting, enhancing and deploying systems designed to automate business processes using programming languages and platforms supported by
RUCIT. The Application Developer analyzes business challenges, makes technical suggestions and designs complex systems under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Assistant Director of IT. The Application Developer identifies efficiencies in program function used across systems and data sharing across units when appropriate. Applications developed include: automated processes, business-workflow specific solutions, student information, appointment maintenance and e-commerce applications, reports for all administrative and academic units of the Camden campus. |

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience with 2 or more years of programming experience with solid knowledge of current programming languages and methodologies and source control. In addition to technical skill, the developer must be able to follow and enhance existing team processes, communicate effectively, provide regular status updates, collaborate with the team and all levels of university faculty, staff and administration. |

- HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap (4 and above), JavaScript, jQuery and AJAX
- Knowledge of modern rapid web development frameworks (i.e. DevExpress, Telerik, etc.)
- Modern PHP web development (Python, Perl or .Net may be substituted)
- Relational database design, construction and maintenance (DDL/DML/DQL) using MySQL or MariaDB (Oracle or SQL Server may be substituted)
- Relational database programming (stored procedures, functions, etc.) using MySQL or MariaDB (Oracle or SQL Server/Entity Framework/LINQ may be substituted)
- Knowledge of web application and database security practices
- Supporting Drupal and WordPress website creation and maintenance, including module/plugin development and multi-site configuration and management.
- Integrating JSON and XML based web services into advanced web projects using both RESTful and SOAP based APIs.
Responsibilities:
- Modernize existing applications to newer versions, frameworks and standards.
- Design and develop responsive full-stack (front/middle and back-end tiered) web applications.
- Adjust to shifting priorities and department initiatives.
- Work closely with faculty, staff and students to analyze business and design requirements to design and develop fully featured web applications.
- Develop project scope, deliverables and schedules for website projects.
- Actively participate in meetings and suggest ideas and improvements
- Update project plans and statuses proactively
- Collaborate with other designers and programmers to complete web application projects.
- Design, develop and maintain WordPress websites.
- Maintain and secure current web properties by applying patches and updates, re-working older code and transitioning to new development frameworks as needed.
