Job Description:

TheQuality Failure Analysis Engineer serves as a senior technical individual contributor responsible for independently driving complex failure analysis investigations on semiconductor devices and assemblies. This role requires deep hands-on expertise with failure analysis tooling and methodologies, including SEM, FIB, and EDS, as well as strong knowledge of semiconductor device physics and circuit behavior. The engineer will lead technically challenging investigations, establish and optimize FA techniques, and provide expert-level analysis to support manufacturing yield, reliability, and product quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently lead complex, high-impact failure analysis investigations from problem definition through root cause identification and corrective action support.

  • Set up, qualify, optimize, and maintain advanced failure analysis tooling and laboratory capability, including SEM, FIB, and EDS systems.

  • Perform advanced physical, electrical, and materials analysis using SEM/FIB cross-sectioning, EDS elemental analysis, X-ray inspection, acoustic microscopy, and optical/light microscopy.

  • Execute sophisticated electrical fault isolation and characterization, including I V analysis, mixed-signal power probing, and use of parameter analyzers, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes.

  • Conduct wet and dry chemical deprocessing at die and package levels to expose failure sites while preserving defect integrity.

  • Analyze failures related to compound and complex semiconductor devices and packaging technologies

  • Interpret circuit schematics, layout data, and process flows to guide failure isolation strategies and correlate findings to design, process, or manufacturing contributors.

  • Provide clear, technically rigorous documentation of analysis results, conclusions, and recommendations to engineering and quality stakeholders.

  • Partner with process, manufacturing, and quality teams to drive yield improvement, reliability enhancement, and systemic corrective actions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical field (Master's degree preferred).

  • 5+ years of hands-on Failure Analysis experience with semiconductor devices in a manufacturing, reliability, or R&D environment.

  • Strong background in semiconductor device physics and circuit operation; experience analyzing semiconductor circuits strongly desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret circuit schematics, identify critical nodes from layout data, and perform complex power probing of mixed-signal devices.

  • Proven expertise with standard and advanced failure analysis tools and techniques, including:

  • SEM / FIB / EDS

  • X-ray analysis and Acoustic Microscopy

  • Electrical testing using parameter analyzers, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes

  • Wet and dry chemical deprocessing methods

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills with the ability to work independently on ambiguous problems.

  • Experience supporting high-volume semiconductor manufacturing or advanced technology development programs.

  • Familiarity with reliability testing, qualification standards, and yield improvement initiatives.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex technical findings.
