We are seeking a hands-on Sheet Metal Technician to support the fabrication, assembly, and modification of aerospace prototypes and production hardware. This role is critical to delivering high-quality components that embody our core values of Deploy Faster, Operate with Confidence, and Design with Purpose. You will work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing to translate technical drawings, layouts, and concepts into flight- and production-ready hardware. Assignments are often non-routine and require strong mechanical judgment, precision, and a deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with requirements.
What You'll Do
- Fabricate, assemble, and modify sheet metal components for aerospace prototypes and production hardware with a focus on efficiency and speed to support rapid deployment timelines
- Perform layout, cutting, bending, forming, trimming, deburring, fastening, fitting, and finishing operations to aerospace workmanship standards.
- Execute layout and assembly of sheet metal components, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
- Install solid rivets and perform fastening operations in accordance with aerospace standards.
- Interpret blueprints and drawings to verify rivet edge distance, pitch, and installation requirements.
- Operate fabrication equipment such as shears, press brakes, rollers, and CNC machinery.
- Interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and work instructions to ensure parts are built with precision and purpose.
- Measure and inspect parts using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure quality and reliability, enabling confident operation in the field.
- Perform basic welding and metal joining operations (MIG, TIG, or similar), as needed.
- Troubleshoot fabrication and fit-up issues, proactively identifying solutions that maintain quality and schedule.
- Provide hands-on feedback to Engineering to improve fit, function, manufacturability, and overall design intent.
- Collaborate with Engineers, Supervisors, and team members to meet production deadlines and continuously improve processes.
- Work with a variety of materials including aluminum, steel, composites, and soft goods (e.g., foam, leather).
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while adhering to all safety protocols.
What You'll Bring
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, manufacturing, or a related field preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on fabrication experience
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal fabrication equipment
- Experience performing layout and assembly of sheet metal components
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, including rivet edge distance and pitch requirements
- Experience installing solid rivets and performing precision fastening operations preferred
- Experience using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing reliable, high-quality work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Experience with CNC fabrication or machining equipment
- Welding experience (MIG, TIG, or similar)
- Familiarity with aerospace standards, Mil-Spec hardware, or regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting prototype or low-volume, rapid production builds
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
