Your Role at Cabot:

Cabot Corporation is seeking Payroll Specialists to join the evolving HR Shared Services & Operations team at the Billerica, MA Cabot location.

The primary focus of this role is to process high-volume payroll on a biweekly basis for all North America business units (US and Canada). The role also maintains, processes, and creates and upload EIB's and payroll inputs into WorkDay. The Payroll Specialist will provide accurate processing of payroll and assist in the day-to-day administration and operation of the payroll function to enhance the effectiveness of the HR department and the business by ensuring that payroll is processed and consistently delivered in an accurate, timely and compliant manner for over ~1,300 employees in the USA and Canada, consistent with federal and multi-state wage and hour laws for all hourly and salaried employees.

We are looking for a payroll specialist who can handle various tasks with ease and enthusiasm. You should be proficient in Microsoft 365 and have an excellent working knowledge of payroll standards, regulations, accounting, and data privacy. A successful individual should also be able to analyze, research, and solve problems effectively, as well as communicate clearly and confidently with all levels of the organization.

This position reports to the Payroll Manager, North America.

This role is based at the Billerica, MA or Alpharetta, GA location, but is eligible to participate in the current HybridWorking Arrangement program (Monday/Friday remote and Tuesday-Thursday in office).

How You'll Make an Impact:

As a payroll specialist, you will have a significant impact on the organization by ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time. You will be responsible for managing the payroll process from start to finish, including data entry, auditing, reporting, and tax filing. You will also provide excellent customer service to employees and managers who have questions or concerns about their pay. You will constantly look for ways to improve the efficiency and quality of the payroll system and procedures. You will be a valuable member of the team who contributes to the success of the organization.

  • Manage the payroll process from start to finish

  • Contribute to annual audit selection process

  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining garnishments

  • Partner with team members to perform quarterly and annual tax reconciliations

  • Ensure that all SOPs are updated to reflect entire end-to-end payroll process.

  • Execute interfaces and reconcile payroll results by performing audit checks.

  • Develop ad hoc payroll reports as needed.

  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that payroll services are delivered at best practice standards.

  • Deputize where appropriate for the Payroll Manager where appropriate.

What You'll Bring to Cabot:

  • Bachelor's degree (i.e. Accounting, Business, HR or related).

  • 3+ years' relevant work experience in payroll.

  • Experience of processing payroll for Canada and the US with knowledge of US local, state, and federal employment and tax law.

  • Payroll processing experience for 1,000+ employees across multiple locations.

  • Ability to demonstrate advanced EXCEL skills, VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, charts.

  • WorkDay experience preferred not required.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner from the National Payroll Institute will be a plus.

  • Holder or working towards Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) from PayrollOrg a plus.

  • Solid knowledge of federal, state and local payroll tax regulations and processes.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Deep knowledge of local, state, and federal employment and tax law.

  • Project team level participation in new systems implementation's a strong plus.

  • The pay range for this role is from $74,300 to $110,500. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skill, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, all positions are eligible for health benefits on the first day of employment, 401K savings plans, vision, dental and annual bonus based on company performance.
