The Department of Psychology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University are currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant.

About the Opportunity

The purpose of this position is to assist with a multi-site, laboratory-based project examining the impact of product flavorings on cigar use. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of this project, specifically the coordination of participant activities (e.g. recruitment, scheduling, screening, and session conductance) and maintenance of study documents and data.

What You'll Do

  • Participant recruitment (creating and disseminating advertisements) and scheduling (maintaining study calendar)
  • Participant screening and session conductance (evaluates data to determine eligibility; conducts informed consent process; administers questionnaires and tasks; collects urine and breath samples; administers cigar products)
  • Maintain study supplies (cigar inventory; urine sample inventory; participant payment log), equipment (calibrates smoking topography machine), documents (files consent documents; downloads and files participant questionnaires), and data (labels and cleans data)
  • Coordinate activities within our team (participant scheduling; team meetings; lab cleaning) and with the collaborating site (sharing documents and data; cross-checking procedures)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field.
  • A minimum of 1 year of human-subjects research experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to use Word, Excel, and basic survey platforms (e.g. Qualtrics, RedCap)
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with team members and research participants
