What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a motivated Solutions Architect to join our Application Engineering team. You will be part of a team that builds and deploys applications for Center 9300 and Sandias mission areas. As a Solutions Architect, you will design and implement information systems solutions that require a breadth of knowledge, and experience in multiple system domains such as hardware, software, database, networking, AI, and security architectures. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and develop solutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity as well as analysis and evaluations of situations, data, and/or variable factors. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic and thus making effective communication and teaming key elements of success.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Interface with the customers, internal or external to Sandia, to elicit and define information system requirements.
  • Design, architect, implement and operate multi-server systems and storage solutions for production and prototype environments.
  • Research, prototype, architect, and design solutions for applications in the Division, Center, Organization, and mission areas.
  • Apply system engineering principles from requirements engineering, system architectures and design, integration and testing, all the way to production.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to configure and deploy computing systems and environments.
  • Profile, diagnose, and identify system issues, and implement creative solutions.
  • Network with a diverse technical population to identify new opportunities for growing our capabilities and impact and collaborate across the Lab and other partner organizations.
  • Seek and participate in development and learning opportunities.
  • Mentor and seek opportunities to collaborate with other team members.

*This position is eligible for telecommuting, and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range

$102,400 - $199,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Development or related field plus five (5) relevant years experience; OR Master's degree plus one (1) year relevant experience; OR Associates degree plus nine (9) years relevant experience; OR High School diploma, plus 13 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with Linux-based environments.
  • Experience with Application Engineering technologies such as Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Java, Python, or similar.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

Experience in or knowledge of some of the following:

  • Software system engineering, system administration, network engineering, cybersecurity
  • Automation, orchestration, and continuous integration toolsets (Ansible, Docker, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Designing and deploying information systems in a secure environment
  • Project management of information systems technical or operational work
  • Leadership skills including ability to articulate plans and implement projects to successful completion
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented with good negotiation and communication skills
  • Good organizational skill and ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a high pressure and/or ambiguous.

We are dedicated to delivering essential support through our diverse capabilities and resources including application engineering solutions, a high-end mission service desk, and long-term mass storage systems. Our commitment is to actively engage with our mission customers, to identify emerging needs and to invest in opportunities that advance 9320s collective mission. The Applications Engineering (AE) team is the team Sandia turns to for delivering custom, end-to-end web-based solutions to help accomplish Sandias Mission.

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
