School of Nursing and Health Studies

Division of Clinical Nursing

Located in the heart of Kansas City on the Health Science District campus, the School of Nursing and Health Studies offers pre-licensure BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs to over 1,400 students. The School has full accreditation from the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and UMKC is NCA accredited. We are a team with a passion for nursing and a mission to improve health outcomes for all. The School values excellence in teaching, scholarship, clinical practice, and service. In 2026, UMKC's graduate nursing program was ranked 22nd of 208 graduate nursing programs, placing it in the top 10% of nurse practitioner programs nationwide by U.S. News & World Report. Three teaching hospitals, the Health Department, and several clinics are adjacent to the campus.

Research expertise at the School of Nursing and Health Studies spans the full translational continuum, from basic science through direct patient care and community-engaged research across the lifespan. Our faculty conduct research with individuals, families, and communities across three broad areas: clinical/biological research, health systems and outcomes research, and nursing education research.

The Division of Clinical Nursing houses UMKC's Nurse Practitioner programs, offering accredited tracks in Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care (AGNP-PC), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP), Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care (PNP-PC), and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Acute Care (PNP-AC). The division also supports students in the Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist (SRNA) program and the Nurse Educator (NE) track. Faculty bring extensive clinical expertise across primary care, acute care, women's health, pediatrics, mental health, and neonatal intensive care, and are deeply committed to mentoring students in complex clinical reasoning, diagnostic decision-making, and professional role development. We value collegiality, transparency, shared governance, and a team-based approach to advancing high-quality NP education.
