Overview
As part of Waters Corporation's Facilities Team, perform both skilled and general work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the assigned campuses. Support general facilities functions and maintenance requests.
Responsibilities
Responsible for supporting the Facilities Carpentry department in the following locations: Milford (primary location), Franklin, and Cambridge MA sites. Working hours: M-F 6:00AM - 2:30 PM. Overtime as required by business needs. Some Saturday work required.
- This role does not have any direct reports however, it will require supervision of contractors and possibly CO-OP student(s)
- Ocassional off-hour on call responsibilities are required
- Plan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, walls, ceilings, and partitions from initial layout to assembly using verbal instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders
- Develop time and materials estimates for in-house jobs and projects.
- Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, walls, etc
- Perform inspections and determine carpentry needs on grounds, buildings, and equipment by following established inspection procedures. Advise management staff on carpentry standards and recommended repairs
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. Remove scraps and lumber as needed. Receive and complete work orders by utilizing Waters computerized maintenance management system.
- Layout walls, door and window openings, headers, and joints using modern construction techniques. Repair, replace, maintain, and install wall boards, sheet rock, weather stripping, base boards, insulation, waterproofing materials, roofing, and suspended ceilings
- Lead or assist with meeting room set-ups, furniture and office moves, and equipment moves
- Complete in-person and E-Learning training assignments as required
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Technical trade school program completion preferred
- A minimum of eight years in the carpentry trade
- One+ years in a leadership/foreman role preferable
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in the carpentry trade
- Work cooperatively and maintain positive working relationship with others
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
- Ability to read blueprints and diagrams
- Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations
- Drivers license required
- Demonstrated adherence to OSHA standards and safe working practices
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing/email.
- Meet schedules and timelines. Attend meetings as requested (virtual and in-person)
- Train and provide work direction and guidance external contractors.
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Work independently with minimal direction on projects
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code (I.B.C.) and carpentry trade
- Provide estimates on time and materials requirements.
- Coordinate and schedule work with other trades on occasion. Leadership experience preferable.
- Ability to work independently and operate a variety of hand and power tools such as: power saw, planer, drill press, sander, band saw, table saw, radial arm saw, nail gun, air compressor, other power equipment, and measuring devices.
- Lead and perform skilled carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, construction, alteration, forming, framing, and finishing of buildings, furniture, and facilities.
- Construct, install, maintain, and repair woodwork, drywall, mud/tape, paint.
- Plan and lay out carpentry work including: working from plans, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and diagrams.
- Perform accurate measurements, and arithmetic calculations.
- Perform heavy manual labor lift 50lbs
