A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline. AIS is looking for a Songbird Survey Technician to support IEc breeding Bird survey at DA Site

Primary Function:

Surveyors will wake before dawn and spend the morning conducting point counts. The afternoons will be spent scouting new sites, transcribing data into spreadsheets, and quality assuring data. During periods of inclement weather, field surveyors will scout potential survey locations for future days and/or conduct data entry and prepare for data analysis. Applicants will work independently but will be part of a larger team and will be expected to communicate and work effectively with the larger team.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Data entry
  • Data QA/QC
  • Pre-field logistics



Compensation: Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated, and total compensation will vary depending on candidates' depth of experience.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must be able to identify songbirds common to the area by sight and sound.
  • Project specific training will be provided but prior bird sight and sound identification skills are required.
  • Applicants will be required to pass a sight and sound exam via webinar/Skype. Driver's license is required.
  • Applicants must be in good physical condition, as long hours in the field will be required



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Applicants with prior point count experience will be given preference.
  • Familiarity with the use of rangefinders and GPS is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience accurately recording and managing data using basic data entry software



Travel:



  • Daily travel anticipated to project sites as well as deployment to and from the Smithville, NJ and project inception and conclusion.
  • Travel Reimbursed at an hourly rate along with compensation for miles accrued on a personal vehicle as well as per diem at the specified Government rate.



Location:



  • Survey operations range from Atlantic City, NJ to Toms River, NJ
