The Environmental Technician plays a key role in supporting site environmental compliance activities. This position assists with environmental monitoring and field operations that may include any of the following areas, sanitary landfill construction, gas extraction systems, gas sampling, NPDES, and/or groundwater programs.

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Support the implementation of environmental compliance activities in accordance with site permits, plans, and regulatory requirements
  • Implement corrective measures as outlined in approved Corrective Measures Plans, as applicable to assigned sites
  • Collect and document environmental data to support optimization of remedial activities, including monitoring leachate recovery rates and fluid levels within the waste mass
  • Assist with temperature data collection activities in designated landfill reaction areas, as assigned
  • Assist in the preparation, organization, and review of data and documentation for inclusion in monthly, annual, and regulatory reports and submittals
  • Collect environmental samples in accordance with approved procedures, including NPDES and/or groundwater sampling, as assigned
  • Participate in site environmental compliance audits and assessments for assigned facilities
  • Assist with maintaining site Operating Records, daily logs, and compliance documentation
  • Maintain, calibrate, and monitor field sampling equipment and instrumentation used for environmental and wastewater effluent monitoring
  • Conduct stormwater inspections in accordance with the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan
  • Coordinate with site operations, environmental staff, and contractors to support compliance activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned



Supervisory Responsibility:



  • This position will not manage employees



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Must be knowledgeable of Ohio Solid Waste Regulations
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Windows Office software with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel
  • Possess good mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Must be organized and detail oriented with the ability to multitask
  • Must work efficiently and effectively, both independently and as a team to reach production goals



Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:



  • 2 - 5 years Experience with waste water and storm water sampling required



Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:



  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Frequently working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Frequently climbing and/or balancing
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
