Position: Phlebotomist II
Work Details

  • Location: 903 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC
  • Duration: 3-Month
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Work Arrangement: Onsite


Position Summary

The Phlebotomist II will perform blood collection and specimen handling while supporting daily operations in a physician's office. The role also involves troubleshooting, training support, and workflow improvement recommendations.


Background & Context

  • Coverage for maternity leave at a doctor's office (IOP - Family Medicine & Endocrinology)
  • Potential for extension or conversion (including other locations)


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and specimen collection (venipuncture, urine, fecal, etc.)
  • Label, centrifuge, process, and store specimens accurately
  • Maintain records, including maintenance and patient information
  • Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients
  • Use straight needles and butterfly needles effectively
  • Verify lab requisitions and ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package and prepare specimens for transport
  • Maintain specimen integrity as per protocol
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Participate in annual training programs
  • Handle calls and respond to lab-related inquiries
  • Work in a fast-paced, multi-office clinical environment


Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification (as required by state)
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to perform difficult draws independently ("hard sticks")
  • Flexible and detail-oriented


Working Conditions

  • Majority of the shift involves standing (with lunch break)
  • Medium-sized doctor's office with multiple clinics
  • May work independently at times (2-person site)
  • Initial 2 weeks of orientation and training


Additional Information

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day)
  • Daily workload: 30-50 draws (adults and elderly; pediatrics is a plus)
  • Fast-paced environment


Vaccination Requirements:

MMR, T-DAP, Varicella, Flu, Hepatitis B (declinable), TB, and color vision capability required
