What you will do:
The Insurance & Claims Management Lead Expert , North America is responsible for coordinating and supporting insurance-related activities for the company's renewable energy portfolio in North America, covering the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The position provides regional insurance expertise and operational coordination, ensuring alignment with global insurance programs and governance as established for the Group. The role plays an important part in supporting project finance and tax equity funded projects, as well as M&A teams, ensuring compliance with lender and investor insurance requirements throughout the lifecycle of the assets.
The role covers the company's North American renewable energy portfolio, including:
- United States - primary operational market with the majority of assets and insurance activities, but also Canada and Mexico
- Regional insurance coordination in North America is led by Houston, working closely with local operational teams and operating under the guidance of EDP's global insurance strategy and governance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Insurance Support for Finance and portfolio management teams
- Provide insurance expertise and support for tax equity transactions and project financing.
- Coordinate with advisors the preparation of insurance reports and PML reports, namely providing necessary documentation and reviewing reports required for financial close ensuring compliance with insurance provisions in financing agreements
- Support insurance-related due diligence processes with lenders, investors, and advisors, during M&A and asset transfer transactions, responding to insurance-related information requests
2. Management of North American Insurance Placements
- Coordinate the placement and renewal of locally procured insurance policies, primarily liability lines: General Liability, Umbrella / Excess Liability, Auto Liability, Workers Compensation, Fiduciary and Crime and others that may be required
- Prepare submission packages by collecting information from internal stakeholders and work with insurance brokers to ensure appropriate coverage limits, policy wording, and placement in the relevant markets and that locally placed policies comply with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements
3. Contractual Insurance Review & Risk Advisory
- Review insurance provisions in commercial and project contracts, including EPC contracts, O&M agreements, Interconnection agreements, PPA agreements, Supply agreements, Land lease agreements, and others, providing guidance to internal teams regarding insurance requirements and risk allocation and ensure contractual insurance obligations are consistent with market standards and existing insurance programs
4. Claims
- Support the management of insurance claims affecting North American assets and act as liaison between internal teams, brokers, and insurers
5. Internal Coordination & Administration
- Support and coordinate operational aspects the implementation of global insurance programs placed at group level, across North American operations ensuring alignment between regional exposures and global insurance structures
- Manage local operational matters such as issuance of certificates of insurance, Policy endorsements, Site additions and removals, updates to insured asset schedules
- Maintain accurate insurance records and documentation for North American policies
- Manage insurance schedules and exposure data
- Support global Insurance team in insurance budgeting and forecasting activities
- Support insurer risk engineering reviews and site visits

What are we looking for
- Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields is preferred: Risk Management / Insurance / Finance/ Law/ Engineering/ Business Administration
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience
- Experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, power generation, or other large industrial risks
- Experience supporting project finance and/or tax equity structures
- Experience managing or coordinating insurance placements in the United States
- Experience reviewing contractual insurance provisions
- Experience working in multinational organizations with international reporting lines
- Strong knowledge of the following areas is required:
- Operational All Risk / Property insurance programs
- Liability insurance lines for infrastructure assets
- US insurance market practices and regulatory environment
- Insurance requirements within project finance documentation
- Contractual insurance provisions and risk transfer mechanisms
- Claims processes and coordination with insurers and brokers
