| Primary Purpose of Position |
This position is responsible for analysis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of all activities related to underground campus utilities and related building steam and heating systems.
The position will initiate repairs or replacements as necessary to upgrade campus systems and minimize energy losses.
The position shall be responsible to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor and will assist with special projects as directed. |
| Minimum Qualifications |
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Trainee/Apprenticeship: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. After successful completion of a one year apprenticeship in the assigned trade(s), the position can be updated to the Contributing Level.

| Essential Job Functions |
- Maintenance and repair of campus steam, condensate, water distribution, and collection infrastructure.
- Maintenance, repair, and replacement of steam valves, pressure regulators, condensate pumps, and condensate traps.
- Repair, fabrication, and installation of metal components and equipment across campus.

| Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position |
- Employee provides technical knowledge and expertise in the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and installation of underground campus steam and condensate systems as well as associated system components.
- In addition, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of building mechanical, steam, and hydronic systems.
- Also performs maintenance, repair, and installation of the campus water distribution system when required.
- Ability to weld various types of metal. Ability to operate University owned vehicles with a valid driver's license.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Some knowledge of steam and condensate systems.
- Welding certification and experience in cutting pipe and steel.
- History of good work ethic and teamwork skills.
- Some knowledge of welding practices for stainless steel and aluminum.
- Commercial Driver's License.

Knowledge-Technical: Performs a variety of recurring and non-recurring tasks/functions. These tasks/functions may involve related or varying processes to test, renovate, overhaul, replace, and perform preventive maintenance on standard mechanical systems. Provides technical assistance to others by troubleshooting standard facilities maintenance issues and determining their cause. Mentors other technicians.
Coordination-Work: Determines project/assignment by breaking them down into tasks. Sets objectives and prioritizes activities and tasks, adjusts priorities when appropriate. Takes advantage of available resources (personnel, processes, departments, and tools) to complete work efficiently. Anticipates obstacles/roadblocks and prepares alternative plans to ensure timely task accomplishment. Uses time effectively and does not let distractions interfere with completion of the job/project. |

| Work Schedule/Hours |
Monday through Friday, 6:00 am - 3:00 pm. Schedule may vary due to work load and service activities. Work may be required past normal eight hour day, weekends, and/or holidays. This position is subject to primary and secondary call back schedules.
This position is
MANDATORY and required to work during adverse weather events and emergency closures. |

| Physical Demands of Position |
Employee will be subject to several extremes of heat, cold, dust and dirt on a daily basis. Heavy lifting in excess of 100 pounds is also required on a limited basis. Call back situations may necessitate emergency repairs in extremes of inclement weather. |
