E-12 Educational Coordinator for Special Programs Reports To: Director of E-12 Education in partnership with Special Education Leadership Team SALARY: $80,000 - $95,000 Location: District-Wide Position Summary: This coordinator will oversee the implementation of evidence-based instructional frameworks and curriculum, and provide direct coaching to special education staff and staff working in alternative sites. The primary goal is to ensure that students in special education classrooms and alternative settings receive rigorous, high-quality instruction and access to curriculum that aligns with the district's core academic standards while providing the necessary scaffolds to meet diverse learner needs. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Instructional Coaching & Support
- Active Coaching: Coach staff in high-yield instructional strategies and curriculum usage, including modeling small group lessons, co-teaching/ push-in, and providing actionable feedback to teachers in alternative sites and special education classrooms teaching small group lessons.
- Instructional Fidelity: Ensure the consistent delivery of the district's adopted curricula, focusing on explicit, systematic, and cumulative instructional routines from the general education and special education curriculum guide.
- High-Quality Instruction: Work with building leaders and special education leadership to design schedules that maximize direct teacher-led instruction and active engagement in learning.
- Scaffolding & Access: Support teachers in adapting complex, grade-level content so that all students can access the core curriculum.
2. Professional Development & Training
- Evidence-Based Practice: Design and facilitate building wide and district-wide training on structured literacy, explicit instruction, and the specific pedagogical needs of students with disabilities.
- Curriculum Implementation: Lead workshops on effectively utilizing district-approved instructional materials to ensure vertical alignment and instructional consistency across buildings.
- Diagnostic Instruction: Train staff to use formative and summative data to make real-time instructional adjustments that target specific student deficits.
3. Program Oversight & Systems Alignment
- Multi-Building Coordination: Act as a liaison between district leadership and building-level teams to ensure specialized instruction is streamlined and effective across all sites.
- Alternative Education Strategy: Foster alternative learning models through supporting instruction focused on project-based learning, standards mastery, and college and career readiness.
- Resource Evaluation: Audit and recommend supplemental instructional tools to ensure they are research-aligned and complement the district's primary instructional mission while supporting student's individualized needs.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in explicit instructional design, phonological processing, and the cognitive science of how students learn.
- Instructional Expert: A leader who prioritizes being in the classroom over administrative office work.
- Data-Driven: A professional who uses student performance metrics to drive coaching priorities.
- Collaborative Communicator: Ability to build rapport with diverse staff and translate complex instructional strategies into practical classroom moves.
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Current Minnesota Teaching License, preferred Special Education licensure
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of classroom experience; prior experience with special education or alternative programs preferred.
- Skills: Expertise in data analysis, program organization, and cross-disciplinary team leadership.
