The Infection Control Epidemiologist (ICE) II supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention Program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and affiliated areas. This role plays a key part in advancing evidence-based infection prevention practices to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.

The ICE II partners with clinical and operational teams to monitor infection trends, support compliance with infection prevention standards, and drive initiatives that improve patient safety and quality of care.

Qualifications

Education



  • Bachelor's degree required in a related field.
  • Degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Master's degree in Public Health or a related field preferred.


Experience



  • Minimum of 2 years of related professional experience required.
  • Relevant experience may include Infection Control, Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Health Education, or Public Health.


Knowledge



  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles, epidemiology, microbiology, and clinical practices related to infection prevention.
  • Familiarity with healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), evidence-based prevention strategies, and practices related to cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
  • Understanding of regulatory standards, infection prevention guidelines, and performance improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles for effective staff education and training.


Skills



  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, operational, and academic partners across the hospital and university environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with experience educating both small and large groups.
  • Ability to implement infection prevention policies and lead performance improvement initiatives at both unit and organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret infection surveillance data.


Licensure / Certification



  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required within two (2) years of hire.


Salary Range: Minimum 39.56/hour - Maximum 65.34/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
