Sr. Director (Head), US Commercial Communications (Vaccines)

Location: Philadelphia, PA

The role is responsible for leading all aspects of communications for our vaccine's portfolio, shaping clear and trusted messaging for diverse audiences, and you'll take an active role in partnering to deliver integrated public affairs plans in response to the evolving external environment. You will work closely with commercial, medical, government affairs, policy, advocacy and global teams to align strategy and deliver measurable impact. The role coaches, develops and empowers a team responsible for the creation and execution of communications related to data and milestones for key portfolio and pipeline assets, brand efforts, disease awareness campaigns, PR/ influencer activations, and advocacy plans. You will also be accountable for robust internal and external plans aligned to our global and US business priorities of delivering performance, accelerating R&D and simplifying how we work.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Provide communications leadership and counsel to the Head of GSK's US vaccines business and the vaccines leadership team.
  • Lead integrated communications for the US vaccines portfolio, leading a small team of communicators and aligning crossfunctional and global teams.
  • Deliver clear, data-driven, sciencebased messaging for HCPs, patients, payers, policymakers, media, and influencers.
  • Plan and execute brand, diseaseawareness, PR, and influencer campaigns.
  • Develop public affairs and advocacy strategies to advance access, coverage, and policy goals, partnering closely with policy and government affairs colleagues.
  • Own external and reputational issues and crisis communications; coordinate rapid responses that protect and build reputation.
  • Lead the communication strategy and plan execution to support performance, transformation and culture in the US vaccines business. This includes driving clear, well-structured internal communications on the external environment to the business unit and internal stakeholders to deliver thoughtful, strategic management and focus.
  • Operate and collaborate as a trusted, influential thought partner and vaccines subject matter expert on the broader US Communications team as well as within the US and global businesses.
  • In partnership with the US and global corporate media team, secure positive recognition and media coverage highlighting product and business milestones as well as the overarching strategy, vision and leadership of the company.
  • Measure impact (KPIs, sentiment, ROI) and use data to continually optimize tactics and improve outcomes.
  • Manage and develop the communications team and external agencies to deliver consistent, high-quality work; ensure compliance with GSK standards.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of communications experience
  • 3+ years of recent experience in product communications, change management, issues management, media relations and understanding of investor relations (including disclosure processes) and/or brand marketing (can be in combination with above, not separate)
  • 3+ years of recent experience leading people (direct line leadership)
  • 3+ years of recent experience working in a global and/or cross functional team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • A minimum in of 3 years recent experience working in vaccines, pharma, corporate healthcare, public health and/or federal government preferred
  • Experience developing and empowering high performing individuals, teams and a focus on building a talent pipeline
  • Deep understanding of the US external health care environment and stakeholder landscape as well as an understanding of regulatory process in connection with specialty assets and access and reimbursement in the US
  • Proven track record of excellence in communications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FDA, CDC / ACIP regulatory processes
  • Experience working with advocacy organizations
  • Excellent judgement, high personal and business integrity
  • Strong business and commercial acumen including product launches and or line extension
  • Proven strategic thinker combined with excellence in tactical implementation
  • Ability to demonstrate enterprise (big picture, global to local) leadership thinking.
  • Strong strategic, analytical and proactive problem-solving acumen with a strong external goal-oriented focus
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with strong commercial knowledge
  • Agility and strong decision-making skills using evidence and applying judgement to balance pace, rigor and risk
  • Management of individual and team performance
  • Ability to manage issues and crisis, including scenario planning and activation of communications strategies, initiatives and cascades
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and brand priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational and project management experience to ensure timely delivery and thoughtful execution
  • Experience with budget and agency management
  • Ability to collaborate across matrix team to keep stakeholders
