American Family Insurance is seeking a Lead Development and Operations (DevOps) professional to support our internal Enterprise Payments application. This role will drive the modernization and operational excellence of both on-premises and cloud-based solutions, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable payment processing capabilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, technical expertise, and a passion for automation and continuous improvement.

You will report to an Engineering Delivery Manager.

You will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from the office. You should reside within approximately 35-50 miles of one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783 or Boston, MA 02110.

Position Compensation Range:

$131,000.00 - $220,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the DevOps strategy and execution for Enterprise Payments, supporting both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and security teams to design, implement, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Champion automation initiatives to streamline deployment, monitoring, and maintenance processes.
  • Ensure the security and compliance of payment systems, implementing best practices for access control, vulnerability management, and data protection.
  • Guide and mentor team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across application, infrastructure, and integration layers.
  • Monitor system performance, proactively identifying opportunities for optimization and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain documentation and knowledge sharing for operational procedures, architecture, and incident response.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending improvements to enhance reliability and scalability.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce GitLab branching strategies to ensure efficient and organized code development workflows.
  • Execute and oversee code merges in GitLab, ensuring code quality, resolving conflicts, and facilitating smooth integration across development teams.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or related roles.
  • Proven expertise in both on-premises and cloud (preferably AWS, GCP, or Azure) environments.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab,Github), automation frameworks, and infrastructure as code (Cloudformation ,Terraform, Ansible).
  • Solid understanding of application security, compliance, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring and guiding technical teams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting payment or financial systems is a plus.
