Duties & Responsibilities:

The Spouse Training Program (STP) Instructor will:



  • Be able to instruct with authority over a select range of Defense Attache Service topics.
  • Design, publish and present instructional lessons for JMAS students in accordance with JMAS SOPs and program standards. Coordinate guest lecturers and ensure that guest lecturer materials and presentations meet JMAS standards.
  • The Spouse Training Program (STP) Instructor will provide coaching and mentoring to JMAS students on a range of Defense Attache Office spouse roles and concerns, including representation, communication and security-related issues.
  • Serve as a Course Director, when designated, to administer, evaluate, synchronize, and manage blocks of instruction in the STP curriculum in accordance with established JMAS and STP procedures.
  • Serve as a Point of Contact for JMAS off-site exercises, when designated.
  • The Spouse Training Program (STP) Instructor will be responsible for direct coordination with outside agencies, synchronize scheduling of meetings/trainings/briefings, maintain current contact information for all points of contact and agencies supporting lessons and exercises, keeping them updated and readily available on the shared electronic filing system.
  • Review and adjust all educational resource materials (letters, documents, newsletters, augmenting learning resources etc.) before each class iteration.
  • Coordinate with exercise Role Players and JMAS Faculty attending JMAS exercises before each exercise iteration; assess the performance of the Role Players against learning objectives and provide the respective JMAS Contracting Officer Representative (COR), with feedback.
  • The Spouse Training Program (STP) Instructor will conduct a faculty after-action review within 24 hours of the end of off-site exercise(s) for which they are the lead.
  • Maintain the exercise folder in accordance with JMAS policy and procedures.
  • Serve as liaison with the Defense Attache Service Field Support Branch, the State Department and other Intelligence Community (IC) agencies on issues of relevance to dependents and families.
  • Perform all other instructor functions related to the administration, design, delivery, execution and maintenance of assigned training blocks and program duties, in accordance with JMAS standard operating procedures and current directives.
  • The Spouse Training Program (STP) Instructor will actively support ongoing JMAS accreditation activities through participation on assigned accreditation committees and/or working groups and attendance at JMAS curriculum reviews; understand and support accreditation efforts by Council on Occupational Education (COE), International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), American Council on Education, and potentially others deemed critical by the JMAS Board of Governors.
  • Fully understand the procedures set forth by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) with regard to JMAS being designated as an "Accredited Provider" of Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
  • Perform all administrative tasks associated with the execution of Accredited Provider status in granting CEUs to the IACET standard.
  • Assist and facilitate in registration, attendance, and security paperwork/procedures unique to the STP student.
  • The Spouse Training Program (STP) Instructor will enable the planning and execution of the Young Diplomats Program, and other STP-supported internal and external JMAS collaborations as recommended by the Commandant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):



  • Knowledge of Defense Attache Service operations, embassy environments, and the roles and responsibilities of military spouses supporting attache offices overseas.
  • Ability to design, develop, and deliver instructional lessons in accordance with program standards, adult learning principles, and established operating procedures.
  • Ability to mentor and advise students on representation, communication, security awareness, and interpersonal challenges associated with Defense Attache spouse roles.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and support training exercises, including role player coordination, instructional material preparation, and after action reviews.
  • Ability to coordinate with external organizations including the Defense Attache Service Field Support Branch, the U.S. Department of State, and other Intelligence Community agencies.
  • Ability to maintain training documentation, student records, and exercise materials in accordance with established policies, accreditation standards, and organizational procedures.
  • Knowledge of continuing education accreditation processes, including procedures associated with CEU programs and compliance with established accreditation standards.



Minimum/General Experience:



  • The Spouse Training Program Instructor shall have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in federal government environments
  • Minimum of one complete successful tour of duty as the spouse of an Attache, Defense Liaison Officer/Assistant Defense Attache, Operations Coordinator (OPSCO) or Operations Coordinator Noncommissioned Officer (OPSNCO) in the Defense Attache Service is required.
  • The Spouse Training Program Instructor will maintain certification in the personality typing instrument utilized by JMAS which is presently the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
  • The Spouse Training Program Instructor will maintain currency as certified EQ-i2.0 & 360 Emotional Quotient Inventory practitioners.



Minimum Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
