This position is for Parker Hannifin's Composite Sealing Systems Division, located in San Diego (Otay Mesa), California. The standard work hours for this position are typically 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Quality Engineer advocates for and supports the Corporate WIN Strategy by managing the quality operations in the facility. They develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality standards for products and processes. Additionally, they provide statistical information for quality improvement by gathering data on trends and root cause analysis. The Quality Engineer is responsible for guiding technical evaluation, analysis, and related data acquisition processes to ensure plant quality objectives are achieved.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assess quality performance or cost-of-quality using statistical and analytical methods.
  • Develop and establish quality systems and procedures, inspection plans, quality performance trends, statistical plans, cost estimates and technical quality plans for proposals.
  • Ensure that project and/or process control documentation is compliant with requirements and/or contract.
  • Identify and implement effective solutions to address challenges related to quality and productivity, and cost reduction.

  • Provide input on quality to product development teams.
  • Identify quality performance, trends, and corrective action by coordinating with customers and suppliers.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, interpreting, analyzing and summarizing data and making recommendations.
  • Analyze proposed changes in methods and materials.
  • Compile and write training materials and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Lead and participate in failure analysis and corrective action investigations.
  • Refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to critical areas of production.
  • Represent the company by interfacing with customers, spearheading internal and external audits.
  • Develop and coordinate corrective action procedures and plans.
  • Manage customer claims & returns, submit customer claim alerts, issue, and follow up on customer corrective action requests.
  • Communicate and educate operations team members on matters requiring specialized knowledge of quality functions associated with AS9100 and AS13100.
  • Attend quality related customer and vendor visits and contacts as required.
  • Follow established safety and environmental policies, procedures, and methods applicable to the work area.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, related field, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in quality engineering or a related field.

  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art inspection and quality inspection and quality engineering/assurance techniques, procedures, instruments, equipment, theories, principles and concepts and general business operations

  • Experience in maintaining and improving ISO9001 and/or AS9100D QMS is required

  • MSS mainframe experience, preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts in English.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Tagalog, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with the ability to understand electronic processing.

  • Ability to apply understanding of basic engineering principles and mathematics such as strength of materials, mechanical design, geometry, and algebra.
  • Working knowledge of blueprint and GD&T interpretation.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to analyze situations critically and make informed decisions.

  • Ability to work, train, and develop verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to be innovative and embrace Lean enterprises principles and practices.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to use hands and fingers for detailed work over extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a focus on accuracy and efficiency for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to safely work on the manufacturing floor and operate or be around heavy machinery.

  • Ability to wear required PPE throughout the entirety of the shift.

  • Pay Range: $69500 to $115000 annually
