ChampionX has an immediate opportunity for a Chemist in our RD&E team located in Sugar Land, TX. The Chemist role will work on new product development and technical support for reservoir/well intervention product lines. What You Will Do:

  • Formulate and evaluate products used in the reservoir segment of the petroleum industry, with focus on stimulation.

  • Evaluate physical properties such as viscosity, density, pH, thermal stability, chemical compatibility, and other analytical testing.

  • Carry out performance testing under acidic and high temperature conditions.

  • Operate special laboratory equipment requiring a high degree of acquired skills.

  • Provide direct laboratory support to senior researchers for a variety of laboratory operations.

  • Manage low to mid complexity projects once established.

  • Interpret experimental data, and communicate results clearly to peers and project teams in written reports and oral presentation.

  • Duties may also include researching technical literature, maintaining laboratory databases, and preparing chemical samples.

  • Adopt and maintain our safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related fields with 3+ years of relevant experience, or MSc degree with 1+ year of experience

  • Demonstrated experience in a laboratory environment and ability to set up and operate special equipment following manufacturer's instructions

  • Exhibit high attention to detail and quality service

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Basic understanding of customers needs

  • Strong problem solving-skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Immigration Sponsorship is not available for this role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with acidizing/surfactant testing

  • Product formulation/development experience

  • Experience performing tests with core floods, flow loops, or rheometers is a plus

  • Organic synthesis experience is a plus

Physical Demands:

  • Role is deemed safety-sensitive and may be subject to employer or customer drug testing

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
