Job Description

We have an opening for an Electrician II - Circuit Breaker Technician. You will perform a variety of specialized, journey-level electrical trade functions in the inspection, operation, installation, repair, replacement, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical components and equipment. This position is in the Maintenance Production Division within the Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities Department and may require work at Site 300 in Tracy, California.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will

  • Perform journey-level specialized electrical trade functions, including the installation, maintenance, operation, repair, replacement, testing, and troubleshooting of circuit breakers.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment used in the distribution and utilization of electrical energy (less than 600 volts) and perform work on building power systems and associated circuit breakers.
  • Perform maintenance, operations, construction, repairs, and testing on facility electrical systems and associated equipment to restore systems to operational condition, utilizing specialized test equipment such as DLROs and megohmmeters, as well as standard electrician hand tools and power tools including drills and saws.
  • Perform lockout/tagout to isolate components and de-energize equipment.
  • Provide effective and timely customer service to clients and team members. Interact with facility managers, facility points of contact, inspectors, and ES&H personnel. Work with other craft personnel and provide technical guidance.
  • Analyze, prepare, and deliver reports required for managing projects, work orders, and preventive maintenance records, including entering all circuit breaker test results and barcode information into a database.
  • Complete preventive maintenance requests, deficiency reports, and work orders using a personal computer.
  • Follow all national, local, and Laboratory safety procedures and policies, including lockout/tagout, selecting and using appropriate personal protective equipment, and actively participating in the Laboratory work planning and control process. Maintain institutional and job-specific training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and completion of a related apprentice training program, or equivalent journey-level work experience in the electrician trade.
  • Valid State of California General Electrician License.
  • Journey-level skills, knowledge, and abilities in the electrician trade, including electrical codes and applicable safetylaws and regulations.
  • Specialized knowledge and demonstrated ability to maintain, inspect, operate, install, repair, replace, test, and troubleshoot circuit breakers and associated electrical components, including experience with circuit breaker test sets (for example, PI 6000s, ETI MAC-20s) and programming circuit breaker trip units (for example, AC-PROs).
  • Proficiency in the use of all hand tools and portable power tools of the trade.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact and work independently and effectively with other craft personnel, team members, managers, and administrative staff, and to provide essential customer service to clients.
  • Basic computer skills necessary to prepare logs and reports, send and receive email, perform computer-based training, and complete timekeeping entries.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license; work scheduled, on-call, and emergency overtime; lift up to 50 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner; and work in confined spaces.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with trip unit functions such as long-time pickup, short-time pickup, instantaneous pickup, and ground-fault pickup.
  • Knowledge of auxiliary components including shunt trips, auxiliary contacts, and neutral sensor wiring.
  • Experience reading circuit breaker trip curves.

Pay Range

$48.08 - $58.43 Hourly

This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement and step structure. Step placement will be determined after your qualifications are fully assessed during the interview process.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Davis Bacon Act

The Laboratory performs a variety of work, including some that may fall under Davis Bacon Act requirements. When work scope falls under this Act, the Laboratory complies with the prevailing wage requirements.
