Minimum Qualifications

Education

    Graduate of a Medical Laboratory Technician program

Certification (Required)
Candidates must possess current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through one of the following:

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

  • American Medical Technologists (AMT)

  • American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)

Experience

  • Minimum 24 months of clinical laboratory experience

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to meet VA credentialing and privileging requirements

  • Maintain active certification and required continuing education

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently

  • Technical proficiency in clinical laboratory procedures and equipment

Key Responsibilities

Medical Laboratory Technicians will perform a variety of laboratory procedures supporting patient care, including:

  • Perform laboratory testing procedures in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, and blood banking

  • Prepare and evaluate patient specimens for analysis

  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment

  • Perform quality control procedures and maintain accurate laboratory records

  • Identify equipment malfunctions and assist with troubleshooting

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and infection control standards

  • Assist with specimen preparation and transport

  • Maintain proper documentation in accordance with VA policies and procedures
