BASIC PURPOSE:

The Corps Program Assistant supports the Corps Officers in planning and implementing comprehensive youth and community outreach programs for the Roseville Corps. This position provides leadership in developing and coordinating after-school tutoring, mentoring, and spiritual growth activities, while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for all participants. The role also includes managing program logistics, supporting volunteers, and building relationships with families and community partners. As a member of the ministry team, the Corps Program Assistant helps represent The Salvation Army's mission and values within the Corps and the broader community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Serve as the first point of contact for parents who want to have their children participate in youth programs.
  2. Plan lessons, teach and lead Sunday school classes making use of approved curriculum.
  3. Ensure that attendance is taken at all youth programs by assigned program leaders.
  4. Reach out to children & families who have been absent for several weeks.
  5. Provide communication about children's ministries and monthly Youth Program Newsletter.
  6. Plan and coordinate special events for children, including holiday celebrations and seasonal programs.
  7. Help coordinate and provide transportation for youth to and from programs, particularly on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
  8. Assist in the planning and implementation of the ENCORE worship arts program.
  9. Stock, organize and maintain the youth ministry supplies throughout the year.
  10. Help assist with the organization and coordination of the week-long Vacation Bible School, including activities, Bible lessons, crafts, meals, and volunteer support.
  11. Help promote and support youth participation in Divisional Youth Programs.
  12. Attending youth ministry trainings, both Salvation Army and others, as assigned and approved by the Corps Officers/Assistant Officers to stay current on trends, ideas, and education relating to youth ministry.
  13. Must be and able to lead chapel and provide Bible teaching for children in the After School Program and Early Care & Education Program.
  14. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.


General Duties:



  1. Assist the Corps Officers in the proper training and record keeping regarding Protecting the Mission child safety training for all volunteers working with minors and vulnerable adults.
  2. Assist with coordinating Troops programs, including preparing resources, submitting reports to Corps Officers and DHQ, and serving as a troop leader when needed.
  3. Coordinate and support the Corps Cadet Counselor and Bible Bowl Coaches with any needed resources, including the ordering and distributing of approved Salvation Army material.
  4. Plan, coordinate and implement other creative arts and music programs/lessons for youth, such as Christmas, Easter, youth fundraisers and other events.
  5. Attend monthly Corps Council and Pastoral Council meetings.
  6. Attend all staff meetings and events as required.
  7. Assist with the Christmas Kettle program as requested including but not limited to driving, picking up kettles and/or donations, counting money etc.
  8. Plan and implement weekly Young People's Legion (YPL) youth group.
  9. Perform any other duties as assigned by Corps Officers and/or assistant Corps Officers.
  10. Work with the Social Services Department on recruiting and coordinating volunteers.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS



  1. Must have an AA degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  2. Must have at least two years' experience in youth ministry and programming.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in youth and spiritual development.
  4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and orally, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  6. Ability to maintain a flexible approach to changing priorities.
  7. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  8. Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to speak and write the English language at a high and professional level.
  10. High degree of confidentiality.
  11. Experience with social media and communication skills through social media.
  12. Must acknowledge and support the values and mission of The Salvation Army, and be willing to work in an environment that upholds its Christian principles and ministry.
  13. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS



  1. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License with passenger endorsement and be authorized to operate Salvation Army vehicles.
  2. Must be 21 years or older.
  3. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
  4. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ livescan fingerprint check.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  2. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
  3. Ability to reach overhead.
  4. Ability to operate telephone.
  5. Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs.
  6. Ability to operate a computer.
  7. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
  8. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
