Position Summary

Performs complex account reconciliations and associated financial analysis, technical accounting research to determine proper implementation of complex accounting standards and prepares various auditing schedules. Prepares, analyzes and distributes financial reports and cash flow models to determine present and future budgeting, debt, and rate requirements. Ensures all the requirements for the CPS Energy debt program are met. Responsibilities may include working in departments such as Controller or Finance.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Core responsibilities focus on operational/tactical aspects of the organization and limited, if any, strategic focus.
  • Prepares, analyzes and distributes various financial and statistical reports, to include variance explanations utilizing cost tracing and root-cause analysis.
  • Prepares schedules and supporting documents for annual external audit.
  • Updates department dashboards, including calculating ratios and graphing trends.
  • Monitors benchmarks and analyzes variances to those benchmarks.
  • Performs reconciliations to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Evaluates and recommends policies and procedures that comply with accounting and financial regulatory bodies.
  • Performs technical research and writes position papers to ensure documentation of implemented policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and updates desktop procedures, including flow charting and similar processes, while assessing current processes and recommending process improvements.
  • Communicates, both in writing and verbally, to all levels of CPS Energy and external parties on theory and concepts that impact the organization.
  • Supports process improvement initiatives in the areas of cost and margin enhancement, risk mitigation, and operational effectiveness.
  • Provides a high degree of service to CPS Energy internal customers by responding to financial and operating questions.
  • Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Accountant/analyst experience in a field supporting and providing technical and analytical solutions.
Knowledge of accounting/analyst experience in a field supporting and providing financial and operational solutions.
Relative experiences in financial/project management for Operational Units.
Understands processes and procedures in specialized field.
Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel.
Ability to meet goals and objectives with minimal direct supervision.
Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to make recommendations and independent decisions.
High level of accuracy of work and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Ability to identify alternative solutions for development of decision-making proposals, which support organizational goals/objectives and budget constraints
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Enterprise Risk Management, Economics, Math, or other related field from an accredited university
  • One or more of the following certifications: CRMP, CRM, CIA, CFA, FRM, or comparable risk management, insurance, or internal controls designation.
  • Familiarity with the Enterprise Risk Management process and experience helping to evolve a risk program, e.g., development of CBT training modules and lunch and learns, design and implementation of a risk champion network, etc.
  • Extensive experience with SharePoint, including landing page design and management for enhanced user experience, and customizable templates for centralizing information sharing and collaboration.
  • Experience designing and managing Power BI dashboards for various audiences.
  • Familiarity with identifying and establishing Key Risk Indicators (KRI) to monitor critical risks.
  • Experience with the electric or gas utility industry gained through work at an electric / gas utility, an investment bank, a consulting firm, or another professional service provider serving the industry.
  • Experience with GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) framework software solutions.
  • Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions, i.e., Oracle.
  • Experience in establishing an aligned assurance framework to create a common risk language and risk management process for an organization.

Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with concentration in Finance, Accounting, Auditing or related field from an accredited university.
Required Certifications
Working Environment
Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
