Why This Role Is Critical
The I&C Engineering Training & Development Leader drives engineering excellence by designing and delivering scalable learning programs for engineering teams. Leads strategy, curriculum development, and capability assessments to ensure engineers have the skills needed to innovate, execute, and grow. Supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of I&C engineering teams by developing and sustaining a highly qualified engineering workforce. This role oversees technical training programs aligned with NRC regulations, INPO standards, and site procedures. The ideal candidate combines deep engineering knowledge with expertise in nuclear training, human performance, and organizational effectiveness.
What You'll Do Day-To-Day
Training Program Leadership
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of engineering training and qualification programs in accordance with 10 CFR 50 and INPO guidelines.
Maintain training and qualification system documentation, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Coordinate and manage awareness of corporate level knowledge management initiatives and associated metrics.
Regulatory & Accreditation Compliance
- Ensure all training activities meet NRC, INPO, and functions-specific requirements.
- Prepare for and support audits, accreditation reviews, and regulatory inspections.
- Maintain accurate training records and qualification documentation.
Technical Capability Development
- Identify engineering skill gaps and future capability needs based on design lifecycle, equipment reliability trends, and industry operating experience.
- Develop and maintain technical qualification programs, including initial and continuing training.
Integrate OE (Operating Experience), PRA insights, and engineering programs (e.g., EQ, ISI, Fire Protection, Cyber Security) into training content. - Program Delivery & Facilitation
- Deliver high quality technical training, workshops, and engineering fundamentals courses.
- Utilize blended learning methods including classroom instruction, simulator sessions, hands on labs, and digital learning tools.
- Coach engineering staff on human performance tools, decision making, and nuclear safety culture principles.
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Corporate Knowledge Management, I&C Engineering, I&C Operations, I&C Strategy, I&C Project Management, Plant Maintenance, Work Management, and Training departments to ensure alignment of training with plant priorities.
- Support engineering managers in workforce planning, qualification tracking, and professional development.
- Collaborate with external vendors, industry groups, and peer utilities to benchmark and share best practices.
Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Track training effectiveness using metrics such as qualification timeliness, engineering performance indicators, and INPO evaluation results.
Use data to refine training programs and demonstrate value to plant leadership. Incorporate lessons learned from plant events, OE, and industry trends into training updates.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of instructional design, training delivery, assessment and evaluation.
- Understanding of learning management system.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, management and customers as required.
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships, work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to change priorities quickly and confront issues directly.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience in nuclear training, engineering leadership, or qualification program management.
- Knowledge of plant systems, design basis, engineering programs, and configuration management.
- Familiarity with EPRI, NEI, and INPO guidance documents.
- Experience supporting NRC inspections or INPO evaluations.
Total Rewards Package
- Salary: $99,000-$134,000 and may also include annual incentives and performance bonuses. The base salary range is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
