Environmental Engineer III Work in our brand new Brookfield Center office in Waukesha, WI We are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer III to join our Environmental Services team. This role will provide advanced environmental compliance and regulatory expertise supporting our North American manufacturing facilities. The position focuses heavily on air permitting, wastewater compliance, hazardous waste management, and environmental regulatory strategy while helping Silgan maintain best-in-class environmental performance and sustainability practices. This role serves as a key technical resource and liaison between manufacturing operations, corporate environmental leadership, and federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. What you will do:
- Provide environmental compliance expertise supporting manufacturing facilities across air permitting, wastewater, hazardous waste, and sustainability programs.
- Interpret federal, state, and local environmental regulations including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and RCRA and assess operational impact.
- Develop and implement environmental compliance programs and regulatory strategies across multiple facilities.
- Prepare and review environmental permits, emissions inventories, compliance reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate emissions testing and monitoring programs for air, wastewater, and waste streams.
- Support environmental site investigations, remediation projects, and environmental due diligence activities.
- Participate in regulatory inspections, enforcement actions, and interactions with environmental agencies.
- Conduct facility environmental audits and provide guidance to resolve compliance findings.
- Evaluate materials, coatings, and operational changes for environmental regulatory impact.
- Provide environmental training including RCRA, DOT hazardous materials, and contingency planning.
- Advise plant and corporate leadership on regulatory changes affecting operations.
- Lead environmental compliance projects, coordinate consultants or contractors, and mentor Environmental Engineers I and II.
- Support sustainability initiatives focused on emissions reduction, waste minimization, and environmental impact reduction.
What you need to have: *
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 5 to 10 years of environmental compliance experience supporting industrial or manufacturing operations.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulatory programs including air permitting, emissions reporting, wastewater compliance, and hazardous waste management.
- Experience working with environmental regulatory agencies including EPA and state environmental departments.
- Experience preparing environmental permits, emissions inventories, regulatory reports, and compliance documentation.
- Ability to interpret environmental regulations and translate requirements into operational guidance.
- Strong project management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to manufacturing facilities as required.
- Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree or certifications such as PE or CHMM or specialized expertise in air quality, water, or sustainability programs.
- The ability to travel 20 to 30 percent of the time domestically
