Make your mark for patients


UCB's Boston R&D Hub is seeking a lab-based Senior Research Associate to join the US Neuromuscular group in Cambridge, MA and support translational biology drug discovery efforts with a focus on muscle biology. The successful candidate will contribute to the execution of laboratory studies, development of in vitro and/or in vivo models, and performance of cellular and biochemical assays used in early therapeutic discovery. This role involves close collaboration within a matrixed research team to advance understanding of neuromuscular disease pathways, including those associated with nucleotide repeat expansions, genetic mutations, muscle atrophy, mitochondrial or lysosomal dysfunction, and inflammation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assay Execution: Perform cellbased functional assays to support characterization of therapeutic hits and target validation.
  • Model Development & Support: Assist in developing, characterizing, and maintaining primary cell, stem cell, or 3D culture models.
  • Muscle Biology Research: Conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments to deepen understanding of neuromuscular biology.
  • Innovation & Technology: Support evaluation and implementation of new approaches and technologies.
  • CrossFunctional Collaboration: Work with interdisciplinary teams to integrate biological insights into programs.
  • Data Documentation & Communication: Maintain detailed records, analyze data, and present findings.

Requirements:

  • BS with 4+ years industry experience or MS with 2+ years industry experience in biology or related field.

Core Competencies:

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular assays, and biochemical techniques.
  • Familiarity with assay development and drug discovery.
  • Strong attention to detail and enthusiasm for learning.
  • Strong team collaboration skills a plus.
  • Knowledge in muscle biology and translational assays a plus.
  • Interest in mitochondrial biology is a plus.
